Any Given Sunday was cool too. I’m gonna go ahead and say I loved that one too.
I like all of Ollies movies except for: NBK and U Turn.
Any Given Sunday was okay. Nothing special.
When you were Bullet Tooth Tony you said NBK sucked. As for this  topic who is not.My favorite he did was Salvador.
Actually no I didn’t, I was always on the “FOR” side in those NBK debates. Go back and check if you want.
I like U Turn.
the only good part about that movie is u get to see J. Lo’s boobies for half a second
Im a fan, like JFK the best
How can anybody question this mans talent? The screenplays for Year of the Dragon, Scarface, Midnight Express, and plus his amazing directorial efforts, i personally think Stone is one of the greats (Nixon and NBK are 2 of my faves, but his others are just as good). I dont care what any hardcore QT fan says, in my opinion I put Stone a step higher than QT, his resume’ is just too damn impressive.
waits for the aftermath
i agree
Oliver Stone makes cultural and intellectual contributions to cinema unlike QT who makes shit like KILL BILL vol 1
ALL HAIL OLIVER STONE
ALEXANDER= BEST PICTURE OF 2004
unlike QT who makes shit like KILL BILL vol 1
You know, you coulda just told us you were Thenexttarantino before you signed up here, first you repeat your bullshit anolgy on Apocalypse Now then say you disliked Kill Bill. God you’re a retard.
so do i care if you hate me?
when i am a director i will have the last laugh
Do I fuckin care if you’re a fucking director? What are you gonna make? Pornos? Because that’s about as far as you will go. I’ll be well into my own life while you’re struggling in film school. You’re now on my shitlist you pretentious faggot.
Well i guess i gotta hate 'coz i’m a QT fan right? nah, NBK butchering aside- his movies own.
I will say that he isn’t really a creator of films- more an adapter. Because it is a rare occasion when he writes and directs a film completely out of his own head. Everythings either based on a book, or taken from historical fact, or its political. JFK, Any given Sunday, and now Alexander- alot of them aren’t HIS. That’s the only thing that bugs me about him.
He did the screenplay for Conan the barbarian??
whats wrong with making historical fiction?
Stone has made
Platoon: 5 star masterpiece
Talk Radio: funny if only it had Howard Stern in it
Born on the 4th of July: genius
JFK: a masterpiece. one of the great american films about America
Natural Born Killers: gory over the top action a rollercoaster ride very cool
U Turn- under rated. Penn deserved an Oscar
Any Given Sunday- best sports movie since RAGING BULL(but not as good as RAGING BULL)
Simply put Stone is as American as Apple Pie
Natural Born Killers: gory over the top action a rollercoaster ride very cool
Gory Where?
okay in the very beginning where Mickey and Mallory are in that diner and they start killing people and the knife is thrown in slow motion and it is all in black and white then cuts to blood hitting the wall
in the director’s cut they also show the scene where they chop off the guy’s head
You see him actually get the chop? Oh and I forgot the finger in the beginning also. Shit there is a bit a gore.
i forget if Stone shows it but it is in the scene with the prison riot and they walk around with the warden(Tommy Lee Jones) head i think?
i only like JFK
I’m not really a fan of Stone…because I dont like his style or movies in general…NBK and JFK are ok…and how could anyone not love platoon? Platoon is great! love it!
And again, some topics about one theme:
thenexttarantino:
is it okay to mention him in here or do we refer to him as “he who must not be named” LOL
I think he is great. He gave us Platoon, Born on the fourth of July, JFK, NATURAL BORN KILLERS, Any Given Sunday and he is making an epic on Alexander the Great.
bring on the anti stone backlash… i dare you
the Admin:
why anti-stone?
I think he is a very skilled filmmaker. Controversial, bizarre, unique and a bit weird, but good. my ratings:
born on the 4th of july: great
platoon: good
salvador: not yet seen
nbk: interesting
jfk: not yet seen
any given sunday: amazing football movie
u-turn: bizarre remake of “redrock west”
Laydback:
Yeah, I agree that he gets a bad rap one too many times and (Besides WALL STREET) I’m really a big fan of his filming style.
Favorites:
Platoon-Saw this with my dad in the theater and was completely blown away.
Born on the fourth of July-Undoubtedly, One of my all-time favorite bio-pics.
JFK-An all-star cast put to great use and one of the greatest editing jobs you’ll ever see.
Salvador-Very good. The beginning of this movie is almost reminscent of a “Dr. Gonzo” story. Plus an intense ending.
The Doors-Everyone else seems to hate this one, but I love it. Sex,Drugs,& Rock’n’Roll at it’s finest.
U-Turn-Great performances (What Stone movie doesnt?), Trippy Ennio Morricone score, fun characters, great lines, and honorable mention goes to Nick Nolte doin J-Lo doggystyle!
Natural Born Killers-I was prepared for a wild ride but I wasn’t quite ready for this! Gets better after multiple viewings. BE SURE to watch the director’s cut.
Reservoir Dude:
No body metions GUN SHY anymore.
I thought this movie was very tame considering all his other films. If you haven’t seen, then watch it. It’s very funny.
My favorite scene is when the mob boss is in the bathroom next to the haspanic guy from NEW YORK UNDERCOVER, and the mob boss has a problem pissin and the haspanic is pissin a river. Here it is:
HASPANIC: I think your a little slow getting out of the gate huh. It must be a prostate, you need to have more sex.
MOB BOSS: Did I ask you somethin’?
HASPANIC: Hey, don’t be jelous just because you ol’ snake stopped the wiggling you know.
MOB BOSS: You belive the irony in the shit! I can’t even go to the bathroom without getting into a pissin’ contest. Ok, you win the pissin’ contest…
He takes out his gun and shoots the Haspanic in his dick and zips up.
MOB BOSS: …and I win the shootin’.
It was funny as hell to watch it.
Puck:
JFK was an awesome movie.  It was like a crazy commie-conspiracy theory version of To Kill a Mocking Bird.  I loved it…Joe Pesci was fucking awesome.
Wolf:
am somewhat fond of Stone, I like all, but one of his films.
Born on the Fourth of July- loved it. I thought that it was a good view of the veterans side of the story.
JFK- loved it. Made me question the lone assassin story, and was beautifully Platoacted by Cosner, Jones, and Pesci.
Platoon- his best, I think that he made a fuckin masterpiece with this one. I loved Berenger’s character.
Salvador- what the fuck. I thought that he was trying to grab too much attention, and going in the wrong direction.
Natural Born Killers- O.K. I thought that it would have been a lot better without the parent scene, and if he would have shot it the way that QT wrote it, it would have made for much better picture.
U-Turn- O.K. I liked the feel of the movie, even though it had a weak story and no development of the characters. The ending was nice and the tone of the movie was what I liked.
Any Given Sunday- not bad, but not great. He could’ve done a lot better with this movie. It was good football movie, but not a good movie. I liked all of the football sequences, but the in between drama was so dry, and Jaime Foxx made a good effort, but fell short. I loved the ending when the credits start rolling. Pacino was great, but the rest of the cast didn’t convince me at all.
I think that Stone has made a lasting impression on cinema, and even though he is weird, controversial, and in outer space, he is still a genius. Hell that is the way most genius’ are anyway.
