Punk Rock!

I’m trying to get into Punk Rock right now, so does anyone know of the best albums/bands (and not just the ones everybody knows like Sex Pistols, Clash etc.) and have any links to songs? Also, any info on Japanese rock/punk rock would be cool

I’d reccomend the following bands:

The Dickies

T.S.O.L.

Dead Kennedys

U.S. Bombs

The Stitches

Social Distortion

Stiff Little Fingers (Especially these guys, they freakin’ RULE!!!)

And one of my favorite bands of all time,

X

These are just a few to start with.

BTW, your sig is a COMPLETE lie, and you know it…

blink 182 are great! ;D

but no seriously you should listen to Suicidal Tendencies or Suicide Machines. those two bands are pretty cool

What about Avril Lavigne? Or Busted? Have you listened to any of their music yet?

oh yeah I luv Avril Lavigne, she’s so awesome and punkish. what a rebel!1!!!11!1111!

Tell me you are joking…seriously, i need you to tell me you’re joking.

Trans there pretty much summed up good punk rock. But you can’t skip the Casualities and Crass. Crass focuses on just cynical sneering more then making a normal sound.

The Casualities are what those dirty street punks mosh too. Go up to one of them and meantion this band, they’ll respect you forever. But if you want real punk rock check out some of GG Allin. GG Allin was a one-man machine who would write the most hateful and brutal songs ever. He’d also put on shows in alleyways where he’d beat, harass and throw his shit at the crowd or audience. He was notorious for throwing his shit around.

Check some of that out. I’m no specialist with japanese punk rock besides the industrial stuff.

Try the Buzzcocks, Mission of Burma, the Descendents, and Black Flag in addition to what others listed.

When did Stiff Little Fingers first start playing? I heard a song by them a couple days ago and it sounded pretty good. Anybody heard The Sounds? Saw them on tv and thought they sounded nice

There’s some sweet ass punk rock stuff in Romper Stomper (skinhead music though) and City of Lost Souls (Japanese punk)

I can’t believe I forgot the Buzzcocks. Kicks own ass

Are you seriously telling me that you need to be told that I’m joking? Because now I need to be told that your joking. I will put this in clear english for you I HATE AVRIL LAVIGNE AND EVERYTHING THAT SHE REPRESENTS. I’ll put it in French as well J’ deteste Avril.

The best punk in my opinion is the Sex pistols, I just love their stuff espicially their early stuff. Has anybody seen 24 hour party people? There in that, well it’s not really them, you’d have to see the film to understand what I’m talking about.

Forgive me Bexi, but I actually hear people who are serious tell me that a lot, so it’s good to know who’s on the level.

Personally, I value the Pistols more for the fact that they kick-started the whole scene than their music itself, but they still are pretty good. Another good movie involving the Sex Pistols is Sid & Nancy with Gary Oldman. Oh yeah, and the Great Rock & Roll Swindle with the REAL Pistols.

Also:

The Vandals

D.I.

Iggy Pop

Richard Hell

And go rent Suburbia (The 80’s version).

Just downloaded “Johnny Was” by Stiff Little Fingers. Great song

check out www.cashless33.com it’s a really good punkrock band from around where i live. couple of friends play in it. they rock pretty good. they are not the usual crap, they are also heavily influenced - or shall we say spiced up by - rock and roll.

i also like THE BONES

No Doubt can fit into the genres of ska/reggae AND punk but i think u should check them out! Esp Tragic Kingdom, thts kinda punky & Return of Saturn album

Yeah Yeah Yeahs are a MUST! a friend in NYC introduced me to them & theyrelike my 2nd fav band, next to No Doubt!

Eeh, punk is kinda dead. Not that the meaning is lost, it’s just, there isn’t any good ‘punk’ punk any more. I’d recomend getting into a division of Punk Rock called Psychobillly. Check out, Tiger Army, The Meteors, Demented Are Go, Nekromantix, Phenomonauts, The Reverend Horton Heat, and the Cramps. They’re all really good. It’s a mixture of 50’s rock-a-billy and GOOD 80’s punk.

50's rock-a-billy and GOOD 80's punk ......... love it!
Whos that ur referring to sounding like that... The Cramps??
I never hearda them

am i the only one around here who likes the misfits?? i think there are a great punk band… :-/

anyone else?

Everybody talks about how The Clash is the greatest punk band ever, but i’ve heard about 2 of their mainstream songs- “Rock the Casbah” and another one which I forgot, but both weren’t even that good. So is it only their nonmainsteam shit that’s good or are they just overrated?
