I’m pretty sure I’ll get a review copy for y’all’s reading pleasure, afer I complained about not having received death proof

great review

After the end credits we see some of the footage RR shot of his son surviving the film. It’s kinda cool. He’s playing with his turtle, scorpion and tarantula in the sand.

Got the steelbook at Best Buy ($5 coupon knocked it down to the standard-casing price) The bonus disc is said to be a Q&A with Rodriguez and Harry. About to check it out.

I also picked up the Steelbook with the coupon. Great price.

I watched the film again, great stuff. Some scenes are truly great like El Wray fighting off “sickos” in the hospital. I’m about to check the RR commentary, should be great.

That coupon was great. I used it for the steelbook too.

Welp, after going through the extended cut, guess what? I actually like the “Grindhouse-version” a little bit better.

Things seemed to start out well (With Dakota looking at the moonlight and seeing the full moon filled with the “Project Terror mist” gave quite an eerie impression. Plus that brilliant edit of Dakota washing the dishes at her kitchen sink and immediately cutting to Cherry showing her problems she was dealing with at her sink) but then the pacing with the more extra scenes just seemed to slow the film down. The Grindhouse theatrical cut had a much more clear cut-to-the-chase feeling that I felt much more in tune with.

But it was good to FINALLY see the “Kill Bill” list that Dakota had that I kept on hearing about. And the babysitter twins are still fugly :stuck_out_tongue: But actually, they fit with the mold of plenty of Grindhouse-era movies because…Well, let’s face it…A bunch of actresses in those movies just weren’t that attractive to begin with.

BTW, I gave the “Audience Track” a listen and the crowd seemed to let out an enthusiastic yell at the 15-minute mark (Prior to when “Rebel” is saying his famous “Eat-your-brains” line) But I didn’t see anything that could’ve gotten a big response. Any idea of what made the crowd love this?

I noticed that also, and I think it’s because it was the first time the crowd saw Marley Shelton - the scene before it when they got out of bed wasn’t in the theatrical version, so that was their first glimpse of her. At least that’s the only thing I can think of.

Did anyone else notice that the title is missing when the Babysitter Twins appear? I distinctly remember in the Grindhouse version that it said “The Crazy Babysitter Twins” or something similar when they first showed up on screen, but that’s been removed. It’s minor, I know…

Also, in the bonus disc Q&A with RR and Harry Knowles, RR said that he never filmed the missing reel, and explains why he wrote it that way.

Yeah I saw that, it makes sense. The movie is still badass, not seeing it for like 3 whole months made me forget how wild the entire movie is, I watched it last night with a few friends - we stayed up all night watching Planet Terror and Death Proof - best night eva!

As for the bonus Q&A disc, I was expecting to hear more “What’s a Grindhouse movie?” talk, so I was surprised to hear that most of the conversation was about QT’s film-print collection. Kinda neat.

It was also a slight relief to hear the answer of one of the crowd’s questions asking if Knowles or Rodriguez disliked a movie that was shown at one of the QT Fests. I laughed like hell when I heard the answer was “yes”. For real, throughout this year I was on a quest to watch as many QT-Fest films as I could obtain (Using THIS TOPIC as a guide) and wasn’t surprised that those guys were also let down by some of these choices. But the fact is, even Quentin had never seen some of the film-prints he had bought before. So that would probably explain a few terrible decisions!

As for Planet Terror, I mentioned earlier that I perferred the theatrical cut just a bit more than the extended cut just on pacing alone. But A few extra gory parts in the hospital were a worthy addition.

Damn, Zoe looked hot as a Sicko!

Why are you getting all excited for, I’m talking about the Planet Terror DVDs, if they’re going to sell a $30.00 dollar copy they should at least add the missing reel and more extra content like the Sin City bundle which I really like. They’re selling the same shit for an extra $10.00 - the only new thing about it is the steelbook cover. The extended edition is better, plus you get an $5 coupon on the Death Proof DVD. I liked Planet Terror but it dosen’t hold up against Death Proof, at least not individually.

Sorry, I actually avoided this thread until today because sometimes I get a bit passionate about a film. Can ya tell I really like it?

Still, I dont think anyone has answered a question Ive asked in another thread. We hear a tribute to Jungle Julia on the radio during the film. If the end of mankind happens shortly after JJ dies, how could the second part of DP happen 6 months later?

It’s a movie, just forget about it.

It’s very interesting point though.

I finally finished my DVD review:

nice review.

does it say on the dvd where the audience reactions were recorded (town, movie theatre), and when?

haven’t noticed anything… i remember rodriguez saying something about them at one point, but i dont remember

I’m sure it’s mentioned somewhere else on here, but I’m really tired, and don’t feel like searching it out.

I just watched the Planet Terror DVD, AGAIN!, and the bonus disc. At the end of the Ten Minute Film School, (which is actually 12 minutes) Robert says to look for the Ten Minute Cooking School, “TEXAS BBQ”, “which will be on the upcomming double-disc Grindhouse DVD.”
