‘The Balance Between Light & Dark. Is About To Shift. Be Here When It Happens.’

I’m sad to tell you guys, that Noznoy Dochor was a little bit of a disappointment. It wasn’t a bad film by far, there were just too many ideas which remained somehow loose and disconnected. I heard, they had material for about 4 hours but had to cut it together in order to get a 115-minute-movie, but the story and the characters needed far more than that. It would also have been a shame to miss one of the story-lines out, because they were all interesting and worthy to be told, but it was just too much in too less time. It was hard to care for any of the characters. But I liked the overall dark athmosphere, the visuals were superior, too, but in some of the fighting-scenes there were too many hectic close-ups so it was a bit hard to follow. The vampire-theme wasn’t developed the way it should have been, the rest feels like “Constantine”. But I’m eager to watch the second and the third part as well, because the ending of part one is a cliffhanger and a lot of things are waiting to be told yet. Maybe it gets better. I’m a bit in a hurry right now, maybe I’m going to write something more coherent within the next days.

5 out of 10.

@ Diceman:

Same here Alex.

Was fucking disappointed. IMO the biggest problem of this movie is the script. Too many different stories at the same time. The setting was good and the actors did their best.

And allow me to say. Wasn´t it a little bit ridiclious with all this security shit?

I had to give me mobile to a security guy, cuz they say that I could make a pic and this would be not allowed…

And I found it funny to see a movie regarded by the security… huhu, someone could make a pic of this movie, what a disaster.

How come people have seen it already? when was it realeased? Damn IMDB >:(

No, it is not official released ;) So, don´t worry.

This is why they made such a big hype with the security... Not even a a mobile (with a foto function) was allowed. LOL.

Diceman and I had to drive fucking 350 km to Hamburg (Germany) to see it on a Premiere before his official start. it was in russian with subs. Jesus, I watched too much movies, I think it was subbed in english, I have to ask Diceman...

I have just been to the site and seen the trailer. Now I am highly psyched to see this film. Does anyone have any info on the film, besides what you see on the site?

Synopsis: Set in contemporary Moscow, “Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)” revolves around the conflict and balance maintained between the forces of light and darkness – the result of a medieval truce between the opposing sides. As night falls, the dark forces battle the super-human “Others” of the Night Watch, whose mission is to patrol and protect. But there is constant fear that an ancient prophecy will come true: that a powerful “Other” will rise up, be tempted by one of the sides, and tip the balance plunging the world into a renewed war between the dark and light, the results of which would be catastrophic. “Night Watch (Nochnoi Dozor)” is the first installment of a trilogy based on the best-selling sci-fi novels of Sergei Lukyanenko entitled Night Watch, Day Watch and Dusk Watch.

I’ve seen Night Watch 3 times. The narrative of the movie was very tough to follow… everything happens at 90 mph and you have to on your own after the movie is over and on repeat viewings piece together what happens and why. The visuals and cgi of the movie are interesting… but overall the blood sequence and the overall nihilistic noncommercial choices of the movie kept me engaged… and did I mention the blood sequence is awesome? Sadly, the hype for this movie is far better than the movie itself.

I know there is a '76 version, but this one isn’t slated for release until July of 2005. From the mentioning of CGI, you must be talking about this one. It still sounds interesting to me, just my style.

I am not saying its not worth seeing… its just the narrative for it is this rushed convolutedness that takes away from the arc of where the movie wants to take you… this is a movie to go into with low expectations and knowing you’ll need at least two viewings to get it all if you haven’t read the novels its based on.

Oh, I thought it was going to be one of those mental mind fucks like ‘Jacobs Ladder’ where you come out of the theater going, “whah”.

IMO they tried to tell and show to much differend stories at the same time. What do you think about this?

If they’re doing a trilogy. I hope they learn from the mistake they made in the first one and slow the fuck down.

I found the film pretty impressive. but the way the story was told was pretty confusing. i am not used to russian storytelling maybe. it was all pretty non-cohesive and weird. the characters pretty flat and the scenes randomly enumerated… a bit bizarre.

but looking forward to Day Watch

i liked it heaps, but it seems to be pretty controversial lol

when they introduced Zavulon or whatever it was pretty random, he just appeared for a couple of seconds.

“It’s Zavulon!” and they flipped the car. i was like WTF!

I’ll see it tonight . In Sweden they show it at one cinema for like a week with english subtitels. Will tell you tonight (or tomorrow) what I thought about it.

So did you see it, or not?

Yeah, I did… I really liked it !

It was cool and I’ve gotta buy it!

lol

Friends i know that saw it thought it was alright, but i don’t understand them cause i really liked it and am eagerly awaiting the second and third.

I personally loved the film, but I only fully understood and fully liked it after a second watching lol.

I watched it again for the third time in the cinemas but they cut some scenes:(

day Watch is officially released in russia andsome other surrounding countries (eg.ukraine). I can’t wait to see day watch.

Dusk Watch is also being shot, but unfortunately it’s going to be in english since fox bought it…darn
