I’ll rewatch Apocalypse Now and Lost Highway sometime soon to see what I think of them now.
I know GBU beats every wester created, spaghetti westerns are better by definition, yet somehow I’m not that attracted to them. I don’t like the cultural background and therefore the atmosphere in those films. I don’t like the scenes where Tuco meets his brother in the hospital or what he was, for instance. They’re supposed to move you, but they don’t work on me.
And humour too, very Indiana Jones, this light irony and use of semi-strong words, so that kids can watch too, haha, I know it’s not a child movie, but it won’t have restrictions in cinemas. Nothing hilarious, just a few chuckles, well, then in my opinion, you can to without them, make the film more serious and manly, it’s a western after all.
Edit: oh yeah, I will rewatch Taxi Driver too.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Spaghetti Westerns are better than other Westerns. I mean there are more great American Westerns than there are Spaghetti Westerns. But it is a matter of taste I suppose.
If there is one thing I like about Westerns, it’s the culture, the atmosphere. That is the reason why I would watch any Western ever created, I love that whole “old west” mythology (Civilisation actually wasn’t like how the westerns portray them). I love that there is next to no authority figures (police), people can do pretty much whatever the fuck they want. If a sheriff is against them, all that person needs is enough men to outnumber the Sheriff and his deputies and BANG, the town is yours. I fucking love that. I love how dangerous it is, you could get killed at any time.
I also love the humour in Leone’s Westerns.
“If you have to shoot, shoot, don’t talk”
“I like big fat men like you. When they fall they make more noise.”
"Hey, look at that, one bastard goes in, another one comes out"
It’s good that there is some humour and it’s dark humour at that, which is better and he doesn’t make it overtly funny. He has humour in all the right places. I don’t think it’s appropriate saying that “if you are only going to have a few funny moments, then don’t have them at all” which is what you are saying. Westerns do have their darkside and gritty, mean moments, but need humour too, to lighten it up at times. It is always good to have some humour in a film.
The overall dialogue is also very good. Very witty and very interesting. The dialogue is part of the appeal.

Go search for psychiatric help. Now.
I am the only girl i know that hated titanic with a passion!!!it’s awfull!! i don’t know where to begin. Also, i know people may disagree with me completley here but E.T. as well, this film did NOT “move me” or make me “cry”, -just waiting for to it to end!
I hated Titanic only for the fact that it was on everybody’s mouth for like 10 months when it came out. I was doing my O Levels at the time, and even the fucking comprehension was on the fucking Titanic, both in the English and Italian exam. All I heard for ten fucking months was about this fucking sinking ship. I worked my ass off for like a year studying for those damn exams, and I go there and I read the same old bullshit story about how the Titanic sunk and how many people were killed and blah blah blah, and they expected me to answer dozens of questions about some ship that hit an iceberg 90 years ago. Not to mention the fact that I was also having my first experiences with members of the opposite sex, and every fucking girl was obsessed on the Leo fucker. I was like “Honey, do you love me?” and the girl was like “Leo is sooo cute, I wanna marry him! What did you ask me again?” So my initial hate for Titanic was solely dependant on personal reasons only. Looking back now I think it’s a quite well done film.
Personal ramblings aside, I think it’s about time Cameron directed a new fucking movie. And I’m not talking about some IMAX under-the-sea documentary bullshit. A real movie. It sucks to be a Cameron and Tarantino fan at the same time.
definitly, the last film I remember by him was … fuckin Titanic! Did he make anything after it? I don’t think so, he’s one of those directors who would of done anything for decent CGI in the 80’s and now that it’s here he doesn’t get in on the action, somebody has to wake him up
I heard he was directing Battle Angel Alita. I hope it isn’t to similar to the screenplay I’m writing.

Let’s not give him too much credit. Even Rain Man wasn’t that dumb.

You must be high. The Wild Bunch and Butch Cassidy are some of the BEST Westerns of all time (and films for that matter). Without Peckinpah and films like The Wild Bunch, directors such as John Woo and Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino probably wouldn’t be making films today.
And Fistful of Dollars is a good movie, but not the greatest Western ever made (most Leone fans would agree to that as well, so it’s hard to say that FOD is overrated).
