Neither of those movies are over-rated. Nobody talks about or cares about Independance Day (although it is a fun movie), and EVERYONE knows Catwoman was shit.
…unless youre actually talking about a movie called “Cat Women”. But even if so, Ive never heard of it so I dont think that would count as over-rated either.

you have a point there but why do these movies make it in the cinema in the first place, that is already overrating, like saying that these movies have something that all those movies in cinema dont have.
You can’t tell someone what kind of movie they should have made. That’s 100 percent their choice (in most cases), and the only thing that you can do is criticize what was in the movie. Anyway, the film is partly based on a true story because Polanski did run away from the Nazis in Poland during WW2 in order not to be killed, so that might make sense why he chose to make the kind of movie that he did.
I agree when I first watched Full Metal Jackett ,I hated it but I watched it a few more times and now I love it,mainly for R lee Emery. I swear R Lee is a pimp.
Anyway
Harry Potter 3
Y tu Mambia Tambien
Blue Velvet(I still loved it)
Doom Generation
Bonnie and Clyde(It is one of my favorites but it is overated.)

in ESOTSM there where great flaws…
the killer and raging bull are masterpieces…
boring is personal taste…but therefor not overrated…

But the only way that you can say a movie is overrated or not is based on personal taste. So one person might really enjoy a film and thus think that it deserves the high praise it gets, while another person may not like the movie as much as others so it is overrated according to him/her. So you might think that the Killer and Raging Bull are masterpieces and not overrated, but I might think they’re good but not Great and therefore they are overrated according to me. So basically everything is based on personal taste.

yeah, theres a lot of movies i dont like bu i know have great direction, story and acting. for example, Apocalypse Now, i watched it but i didnt like it, too dark for me. even because of this I know it is a very well put together movie. And Requium for a dream is another movie i’d never watch again. But I admit that it is a great movie.

uhm…no…you can hate van gogh, dali, monet and name some more great painters but cant say they are overrated…
rating doesnt go by personal taste…its not about liking but about seeing quality…
It’s a mixture of both. Any form of art is subjective. There may be no denying the positive aspects of a painting, film, book, etc but if it doesn’t move you in any way or rubs you the wrong way then it is your choice to say if it is overrated or not. But that’s only IF it has gotten a lot of praise from others, or else it wouldn’t really be considered overrated.
Lost in Translation…I know a lot of people loved this movie, but personally I just kept waiting for some sort of plot or significant point to happen…and then it ended. It was an Okay movie, and the cinamatography was cool…but I just dont understand why everyone thought it was such a fantastically brilliant masterpiece
