Okay before I start I would just like to say that I’m not being a dick here ok? I don’t mean this to insult anyone or anything, I’m just trying to sort it out in my head…
Am I the only person who finds most posts on this forum to be completely ridiculous? It seems most posts are from 16 year olds who have never made a film and who think that their first films need to be shot on 35mm because they ‘hate the look of crappy DV’ or something like that… or they’re trying to make the new Kill Bill or latest cop thriller. Everytime I read a post called ‘My latest film’ or ‘How do I make a film’ or something its always the same story, or one thats been done a million times before.
I just think that people on these forums need to be a little more realistic. Everyone talks like they shoot on 35mm all the time, when in fact I doubt anybody here does. Sure you may have ahad a dabble at college or something but, y’know? It’s just not realistic to think that you’ll make your first film on 35mm is it?
And - I often read people who have never written a script before or never made a film talking about getting it picked up and stuff. ‘Where do I sell my script?’ - - what? your 200 page epic about tough cops and drug dealers?
Whatever…
I can’t be the only person who feels this way can I?
…Can I?
Who here said they were gonna make their first film on 35mm? Where’s
that post? I think the only person here actually shooting a movie is Thaduke
and I’ve never seen him mention shooting on 35mm.
People ask for tips on certain aspects of making a film all the time but I’ve
never heard anyone actually ask how to make a film. Nobody here knows
everything so it’s only natural that questions get asked.
As far as people’s ideas not being original. I try not to discount anyone’s
creative ability until I’ve read the full script. I laughed my ass off when I
read the premise for your “film” but didn’t make fun of it because a good
writer could make it work and I don’t know if you’re a good writer or not.
For example I’m writing a Zombie script right now. It’s been done a million
times before but I like to think I’m doing it in a fresh way with fresh characters.
The type of posts I hate is when people say they’re going to make a film
but don’t even have a script started. Or they post a scene and expect a
review.
I don’t know, I love these forums and most of the people are really cool so
maybe I’m a little biased.
well, firstly, i havent said anything about anyone in particular so theres no need to insult me personally, but yeah thats fine. im glad you laughed when heard my story, its supposed to be funny.
im not going to pick out specific posts because (unlike you) i dont want to pick on any one person, its unfair and immature. but whether you agree with my basic point or not, how can you say that there is only one person on this board making a film? do you read the posts? there are tons of people making films here! and there are TONS of posts asking to read my synopsis or read this scene, you say you hate them - so youre in the same boat as me.
look, its difficult on forums to always get across exactly how you feel, and im sorry if you think im having a serious dig but im not. all i am saying is that i know that when youre inexperienced you need to ask questions - but i just think a lot of the ‘contructive criticism’ on these boards are far less critical than they ought to be. and in being so end up being less constructive too.
thats all im saying.
hang me.
It’s not worthy to become both mad for that sh#t. If you don’t feel well here, don’t stay. And if you think people ask silly questions, don’t read the posts, that’s all. You created the same kind of useless posts as those you criticise.
I just say that to tell you both, well forget about this post and don’t become mad. This forum is a peacefull one, as you said it, it’s a cool place, stay like that.
I just want to notice something :

how can you say that there is only one person on this board making a film? do you read the posts? there are tons of people making films here!
Ahah yeah of course, nobody can know who made a movie or not, I mean, I don’t think there are so mcuh people on the forum who did one, but more than one of course.
well, firstly, i havent said anything about anyone in particular so theres no need to insult me personally, but yeah thats fine. im glad you laughed when heard my story, its supposed to be funny.
Yeah, you just vaguely insulted all of us so I got defensive but I never
meant to make fun of your idea. I was just using it as an example. When
all you get is the story dumbed down to a few sentences it’s hard to
judge whether or not it will be good or original. A good writer can make
anything work.
im not going to pick out specific posts because (unlike you) i dont want to pick on any one person, its unfair and immature.
That’s why they post them. They want honest feedback. It’s not
fair to lump “most of us” together as ridiculous 16 year olds.

Lot’s of people have story ideas and alot of people post the first few
pages of a script but that’s not the same thing as filming a movie.

I’m not mad and didn’t mean to insult anyone. There’s nothing wrong
with a healthy debate. As long as it stays civil.

I know, you didn’t. I just try to convince both of you not to take care of this case. Let him talk if he wants, he didn’t contribute to this board as you did. Then don’t lose your time… Just let him talk
dont fuckin talk about me like im some fuckin kid who doesnt know what hes on about.
the only reason i posted this is because i was fuckin about on the internet and from time to time i pop onto the tarantino forum to see if there are any cool people here yet. and there still arent.
im not gonna be using these boards again, and you might all feel like youve achieved something by effectively driving me away, but i dont give a fuck.
i wasnt mad at first, i was just trying to take these forums to another level of reality - where everyone DOESNT think theyre ‘it’. now i am a bit mad, because i cant even get a decent arguement of you.
so {if my first post here offends you} FUCK YOU. and if it doesnt and you agree with me – then join the revolution and leave all these teeny-bopper turd-burglars to live their lives and make their films the way tarantino told them to do it TEN YEARS AGO!!! times have changed… but you have not…
i thank you.
goodnight.

I thought we were going back and forth pretty good even though You
never really had an argument. You couldn’t back up one thing you said.
You just made a shitload of broad generalizations based on a few posts
you read.
If you wanna go somewhere else that’s fine. I’m sure you’ll find a
forum out there that’s full of equally brilliant script ideas and square
movie posters. I only hope you find your peers sooner than later
as I’d hate for you’re brilliant mind to be dulled down by the likes of
us and our 200 page epics about tough cops and drug dealers.
Who here films with a 35mm camera? Where, the original poster, did you see that? I’ve made some short films, 15 minutes at the most, and I just use a Digitial Camera. Here’s another question…why do you care what other people are filming…last time I checked this was the movie making forum. Correct me if I am wrong.
<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.p … .html ”>http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.php/topic,6616.0.html </LINK_TEXT>; - this post is just bollocks. if its 180 pages long thats about 3 hours by basic script standards. fuck off.
<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.p … 391.0.html”>http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.php/topic,5391.0.html</LINK_TEXT> - this poster is a million times shitter than mine.
<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.p … 413.0.html”>http://www.tarantino.info/forum/index.php/topic,6413.0.html</LINK_TEXT> - i know this guys using dv but someone says they hope he isnt and he says hes only doing it grundgingly.
thats just three examples of the kind of posts im talking about - it took all of 4 minutes to find them. look around and theyre everywhere…
and dont even get me started on frasercoull…
I am sorry if you are offended or anything, but remember its a QT forum first…
If you want good critique go to a scriptwriters forum
I try to tell people what they need to hear in order to improve themselves as a screenwriter, whenever I give feedback. Regardless of how defensive people might get of their work.
Telling people how “awesome” they are (even though most of them aren’t) isn’t going to do them any good.
All right I’m tired and getting more sober by the second but here goes.

This is exactly what I’ve been talking about. Neither of have read anything
he’s ever written let alone this script. Blind criticism. It’s like when people
bash a movie that so and so is attached to star in that will be directed
by so and so before a trailer even hits.

I wouldn’t go that far, but something tells me you used the old copy and paste combo
a few more times than him.

Well, yeah? If I made a movie I’d like to shoot it in HD but I’d grudgingly use what I had.

thats not actually true at all. its nothing like that. this is someone who has never made a film before… look at some of the questions he has been asking… he really is starting from the bottom, he has no real idea of what its like making a film… and thats fine. im not ‘bashing’ that, as you put it. what pisses me off is that everyones like ‘woah 180 pages - great achievement duuuude’, nobody however tells him that it wont be so easy making a 3 hour film on your first go. normally, i would have posted telling him that i dont personally think its a good idea to make a 3 hour epic, but there are so many other posts like it that i got pissed off and decided to start this thread instead. so there.

maybe so, but rather than tell him his poster fuckin rocks your world why don’t you just tell him its a piece of shit? i know its hard not to offend when you say stuff like that and I am sorry, but this is what youve driven me to…
i know my poster isnt great, and i know nobodys actually told me its a piece of shit, but people have been a little more hostile towards mine than they have his and i for one think its bollocks. give me an honest, no sarcasm reason why you think people have (only slightly) slagged mine off while theyve said so much about his ‘killer’ poster. and its nothing to do with this thread because i started this after.

fuck off. just… fuck off.
What are you talking about man? You are acting like everyone is professional or something…
Most people on here just make screenplays for fun…of course its gonna suck…so they just need some feedback in the lines of: yeah cool man, good stuff, so they continue their hobby…
On the other hand you have the more serieus people and they are very lucky with people like deliveryman and roulette on the board, who give very good pointers.
I dont see the problem…if you dont like the amount or the sort/ quality you are getting here, just go to someplace that specializes in that sorta thing…there are enough places on the net that do that.
Or go to a bookstore, find the Self Help section and buy that book “How to cope with everybody braggin about shitty scripts”.
One of the most stupid things to do is trying to make people admit how pathetic they are in comparison with you. But if it’s okay with you keep on trying.
I finally wrote the first word of my script! Any feedback would be appreciated…

Well I’m not gonna tell someone not to make their movie cause it’s going
to be hard. You just can’t take shit like this too seriously. 90% of all the
feature length films people say they’re making with their friends aren’t going
to be completed anyway no matter how long the script is. All you can do is
wish them luck and let them learn.
i know my poster isnt great, and i know nobodys actually told me its a piece of shit, but people have been a little more hostile towards mine than they have his and i for one think its bollocks. give me an honest, no sarcasm reason why you think people have (only slightly) slagged mine off while theyve said so much about his ‘killer’ poster. and its nothing to do with this thread because i started this after.

The hole running us all down like you’re too good to be here made it allot more
fun to find and point out the flaws in your work. I’m not even gonna try and vouch
for the people that said his poster was awesome but it certainly is’nt horrible
and neither is yours. They both just need to be cropped to the right dimensions and
they’d work just fine. It’s not like they’re gonna be big budget hollywood movies.

This sounds suspiciously like something I wrote in high school. I think we’ve gotta
blatant case of plagiary on our hands here boys.
