Imdb

IMDB is what’s wrong with filmmaking. Instead of being a portal for lovers of cinema and alike to talk about film and enjoy it together, it’s a portal for no life having losers to shit on everybody because they don’t particularly agree with their work. I recently went on the QT board and about 75% of the threads were about how Quentin was washed up or overrated and most of their - for want of a better word - arguements, were about Quentins affinity for borrowing... I find that a less than weighty reason for condenming the man when every film and filmmaker is more or less an amalgam of their favourite films and filmmakers. Its like criticizing a carpenter for using wood or an artist for using paint. Especially when most films, especially the acclaimed ones are based on books or plays. Now as a maker of films myself I enjoy the idea of taking bits & pieces of films that inspired me and putting my own spin, my own voice on them. What people dont get about Quentin is that while he may use those great films that he loves as inspriation or even a jumping off point, he puts his own unique voice and direction on them and in most cases, elevates the material.

lol This ended up sounding more like a rant than a point of discussion, but if theres one place that can restore my faith in filmlovers it`s QTA.

ranting is fine

Meh.

Senator Kennedy had some kind of seizure.

Oh yeah, IMDB rocks, but the forum thingy sucks.

i personally love imdb, it answers the questions i may have, opens my eyes to films i may never have heard of and trivia on movies i love (and hate). i dont pay attention to the posts on imdb though.

Yeah, I very rarely visit the IMDB forums, despite being home to some of the most retarded people, it does have a handful of intellectuals who are passionate about film (in a good way). I mostly just go on to look up stuff about a film or actor, though.

Very true. Recently, couple days ago actually. I was on the Daniel Day Lewis board and there was a very lively and rousing discussion on Daniel and his method etc. Very intelligent responses and rebutals… that said. They’re hard to come by.

I seen a topic on QT’S or Christopher Nolans boards saying ‘‘Who is better QT or CN?’‘

One guy on there made a lot of sense, it went something like

’‘They’re two completely different directors both fantastic and its not a competition’’ etc

No-one on that board could leave it! ‘‘QT is way the best,’’ ‘‘No CN is’‘

If the question was who do you prefer, fair enough…why do the people on that piss and moan all the time! >:(

Some people were like ‘’…cause I’m English CN is better’’ and vice versa…how on earth could you have a preference because you share the same nationality! ??? Yeah, being proud is awesome. I’m from the UK and prefer QT, dont got me wrong i LOVE CN, as far as im concerned nationality has nothing to do with being good or not ;D I know thats incredibly obvious to you normal lot (i hope you’re relatively normal anyway)

I realise being a newby and all i may sound like a ranter, this is honestly my first forum rant…EVER

That’s easy, QT. First, most of Nolan’s movies are adapted from a source material. People praise him to high heavens but he didn’t come up with most of the plot ideas in his movies himself. Second, most of his films rely on gimmicks. Remove the backward chronology from Memento and you’re left with an average thriller. Remove the Joker from DK and you’re left with an average crime film. Thirdly, some of his films are overrated beyond belief. The Prestige? That’s one of the most retarded movies I have ever seen.

Correction: The Prestige is one of the best films you’ve ever seen; you just don’t know it.

In terms of how well they can direct, they’re on par with each other.

errrrrr…No!

Quentin is a writer director, an all around filmmaker.

Nolan well he’s alright. He does adaptations and works with unoriginal material.

so did kubrick… and scorsese… and coppola… and… and… ;D

Nolan is nowhere as good as any of those. Your talking about master filmmakers!

It’s like comparing a storm trooper to fucking yoda!

ahahah

yeah i know… but i meant a director doesn’t have to come up with his own original material to be great!.

having said that i tend to give more power to a great writer/director (and i don’t mean Eli Roth)…

chris nolan is a good director, but he is nowhere near tarantino, writing-wise or directing-wise that’s for sure…

Amen brother Tony. Now let us take a moment to think about I nlgourious Basterds…

Ahhhhh. That felt good. Just like eating pussy.
