Vixen Dropouts looks slightly interesting, the rest seem like soft porn so I’m gonna pass on those.

Edit: one review link added

Actually “Ninja Vixens” looks way better than those pretty awful “Kunoichi: Lady Ninja”-movies. Just added them to my yet-to-buy-list.

Thanks a lot for digging this up.

I know what you’re talking about (unfortunately). I had quite a fight getting through one of those.

What is Yakuza Masseur? Good question. I have no idea. The HK dvd is cheap as hell, probably sucks big time and has no subs. I’ll get it ;D

Look what Nikkatsu’s coming out with 70’s Outlaw Selection: Melody for Rebellion, Blood for Blood and Bad Girl Mako. Maybe not pinky but whatever.

also digitally remastered Nikkatsu Meisaku Roman Series

the problem with those is that there isn’t much info about the film to be found. Probably some gems hidden in there.

and remember to check Nikkatsu’s awesome Stray Cat Rock subsite

Hirusagari no joji Koto-mandara (1973)

This is the first Masaru Konuma film I see, so right yet I can’t say for sure whether he’s an exploitation director gone psychologist, or a spychologist turned a pervert movie maker. Both aspects can be found here, however usually not at the same time. That’s one of the things drop this movie below the best genre productions. But since he’s the man behind such famous Nikkatsu films as Hana to hebi (original, not the Ishii remake) and Wife to be Sacrificed (with Naomi Tani) I’m sure I’ll soon find out just what kind of man he is. The opening of Hirusagari no joji Koto-mandara is rather light, even romantic (within the genre limits) and doesn’t exactly prepare the audience for the wtf stuff that follows. Several scenes around the halfway may be a bit hard to take but it’s worth it because the last 15 minutes is unexpectedly beautiful. There’s short glimpses of that greatness earlier in the movie as well, but the ending is what really saves this otherwise no-so-remarkable Nikkatsu Roman production.

5/10 (viewed without subtitles)

Incredible news. I’m so happy I’m crying at the moment. Toei will release Norifumi Suzuki’s rarely seen and always loved 1986 pinky violence chambara film Ooku jyuhakkei (aka Dolls of the Shogun’s Harem) in June. Yeeeeee. Half year ago I spent a lot of time looking for this title and found out the only non-japanese people who had seen it had seen it on a festival in New York. And now there’s a dvd coming. Thank you Toei. Thank you.

I love Toei.

EDIT (next morning): typical night time (over) reaction, I see. Too little sleep, too much milk. But still great news.

Recently released on R2J… The Reipuman series (anyone familiar with japanese titles should be able to convert that back into proper english…). A different kind of superhero epic. It’s about a man who’s a high school teacher at day and a superhero at night… uhm…fighting crime in his own way and making sure the bad guys (girls maybe?) pay for what they’ve done. Supposed to be a mixture of hilarious comedy and more serious drama elements… My knowledge of the series is rather limited as you can seen. Anyway, I think there’s seven films, all made in the 90 (I think). Or at least PinkPineapple released seven of them on dvd. More info here: <LINK_TEXT text=“http://shop.softgarage.net/x/catalog/de … =1a&page=3”>http://shop.softgarage.net/x/catalog/default.php?cPath=55&sort=1a&page=3</LINK_TEXT> (the first film on the previous page)

These can be a bit hard to find. Cdjapan isn’t listing anyhing, I can’t even get results through neowing. Amazon is useless with their new shipping policy (and their old “we keep our smut to ourselves” policy). So, I never thought I’d say this but, Thank God we have yesasia. Adult filer off and type zareipuman01, 02, 03 etc. in the search field and you’ll get results. They have their typical 1000 yen over street price rip off prices though. The japanese title is “THE レイプマン”.

Now, I’m personally gonna kill every motherfucker who comes up with one-sided moral arguments without even having seen any of the the films. Don’t take it so seriously (if you do, go join the likes of you here). Remember, it’s only a movie, it’s only a movie, it’s only…

Midnight Eye review for Blind Woman’s Curse:

<LINK_TEXT text=“http://www.midnighteye.com/reviews/the- … urse.shtml”>Midnight Eye review: The Blind Woman’s Curse (Kaidan Nobori Ryu, 1970, Teruo ISHII)</LINK_TEXT>

Looks great. Let me check if Ishii said anything about the film when Chris D inteviewed him in his book (Outlaw Masters of Japanese Film):

Chris D: When I interviewed Meiko Kaji, she felt Blind Woman’s Curse was basically a ninkyo yakuza film. But there were kaidan images in the picture, what with the hunchback played by Tatsumi Hijikata (from Horror of Malformed Men), the cat licking up the blood, etc. How did you get the idea to blend the two genres?

Ishii: (laughs) It’s supposed to be the third in the Rising Dragon series*. The company actually wanted me to work the ghost story elements into the film. I was already shooting when the asked me to start blending in the macabre imagery. I never coud figure out any specific reason. But they were very insistent.

Chris D: I must say it really worked. It’s an original film. Very strange.

Ishii: (laughs) The ghost story images? As far as being coherent, I feel the movie was nonsensical.

  • The first two Rising Dragon films starred Hiroko Ogi. The first one in the series, Rising Dragon’s Iron Flesh (1969), was directed by Ishii. He was originally planned to direct the sequel (Rising Dragon’s Soft Flesh Exposed) but since he was busy doing another film at Toei he made his assistant director, Masami Kuzuo, the main director. Ishii then returned for the third part. Hiroko Ogi however did not appear in Blind Woman’s Curse. Ogi had another yakuza series of her own at the time, and the company decided to make Kaji the star of the third film. According to Meiko Kaji herself it was a sort of gift from the studio who wanted to congratulate Kaji on her new star status.

Note that the Rising Dragon series was a Nikkatsu production, which means Ishii worked for several studios at the same time. Back in the days it was common that directors and stars would be be working for one studio only. Ishii however was a sort of freelance director and work for more than company at the same time. Kaji was a Nikkatsu, but when they basically closed down their normal production and went into roman porno, Kaji switched company and started working for Toei. Ironically she appeared topless in one of her first Toie films (could even be the very first); Shunya Ito’s Female Prisoner 701: Scorpion. I don’t think she ever did that for Nikkatsu.

Don’t get a heart attack reading the first post because things aren’t as bad as they may seem at first.

The fact that Panik House’s website hasn’t been updated since last fall doubled the effect.

Looks like this article is true afterall:

Found something about the reipuman series from Weisser / Mihara’s book

I looked for some further information and Weisser ratings for some of the upcoming french releases. Ratings are out of four.

Al Edwards at dvdmaniacs is reporting that Snake Woman’s Curse and Horror of the Malformed Men will be released August 28, 2007. Toei is also coming out with a 60’s horror batch in July and I think I saw Snake Woman’s Curse there… but knowing the quality of Panik House’s releases there’s no reason to get the Toei this time.

Those three 60’s films that will be released on dvd by Toei in June are apparently also known as the Concubine’s Palace series. Weisser isn’t a huge fan of the series (giving all of them average ratings) but he doesn’t seem to be a Toei fan in general either. He mentions that the films are rather non-exploitative which crossed my mind too when I saw Junko Fuji credited as one of the stars of the first film. But then again, that one is rated ’18’ according to Toei’s web site. Go figure out…

Weisser also gives Kôshoku: Genroku (maruhi) monogatari (大奥å
