Elmore Leonard Novels

Didn’t ‘A Band Apart’ option two other Elmore Leonard Novels at the same time as Rum Punch specifically Killshot and Freaky Deaky. I just wondered if/when they are being made into movies. Would Quentin direct or act as producer? ??? I haven’t read much Elmore Leonard but I read Rum Punch. Has anyone read either Freaky Deaky or Killshot? ???

yeah Miramax also bought the rights to other Elmore Leonard films, among them “40 lashes less one” (of which is wish its the next QT movie).

but there arent any in production. Killshot has been rumored to be a project, but thats a negative.

I’m currently reading Rum Punch. It’s pretty good, but Tarantino really fixed it up.

Elmore Leonard is god. His work basically taught QT how to write. You can go to Elmore’s website www.elmoreleonard.com and check out who owns the rights to what books. I don’t think Miramax owns the rights to Killshot and Freaky Deaky anymore. But Quentin personally owns the rights to Forty Lashes Less One(which I am reading right now) and I really hope he makes it after Inglorious Bastards. Should make an awesome film. If you haven’t already read The Switch, very good prequel to Rum Punch. You really can’t go wrong with any of ELmore’s books, his crime books are the best in the business and his westerns are really good(and coming from me, a person who can’t stands westerns) that is a compliment.

I wished he made Forty Lashes… BEFORE glorious bastards. i loved that book, and it would be so cool if QT made it.

leonard really rocks. i’ve read some of his novels and they are all so cool, for example Get Shorty, that one really is the bomb.

i wish Tarantino would adapt Elmore Leonard’s “Be Cool”. “Be Cool” is the story of Chile Palmer and the music buisness. Travolta would return as Chile Palmer.

Chile Palmer: what is this?

driver: it is an oldsmobile silhouette

Chile Palmer: I ordered a Cadillac

driver: This is the cadillac of minivans

Chile Palmer: I guess i will have to take the “Cadillac of Minivans”

GOD I LOVE THAT LINE. I have that MEMORIZED along with Jules and Vincet Vega’s McRoyale with cheese sequence. That is one of the funniest and coolest lines

Freaky Deaky is an awesome book! All you guys should try and get a copy. Tarantino could do a badass version of it. Killshot is cool too. Elmore is by far my favorite writer and about the only thing I read. I’m still trying to catch up on his work. I have Tarantino to thank for turning me on to him.

“Be Cool” is listed on imdb.com as being in pre-production… or at least was.

i mean, get shorty is one of my favorites, but its too … short, and isnt as complete as the novel, which is cool. but not as good as rum punch

just a question…i’ve never read an Elmore Leonard novel, but I’d like to.  Is there a suggestion as to which one I should check out first or any other suggestions you guys have?

I’d recommend

Get Shorty

Freaky Deaky

Glitz

LaBrava

Killshot

Unknown man #89

Out of Sight(good movie too)

if you like mafia stuff

Pronto

Riding the Rap

Quentin fans

The Switch(prequel to Jackie Brown story)

Rum Punch(story that QT took to make Jackie Brown)

Tishingimo Blues is his current paperback out and it’s really good. Don Cheadle is going to turn it into a movie.

40 lashes less one is awesome

I don’t think it would be good for QT to adapt this - I think the director of Get Shorty captured it fairly well. Anyhow - Be Cool is being optioned as we speak with Travolta returning - the novel itse;f was fun but it kind fell short - they will need to do a major rewrite for me to actually enjoy it on film

40 lashes less one would rock as a tarantino film
