…but for now, I’m gonna take a nice long vacation. Ahhhh. See ya!

Are you still gonna be doin “The Double Feature” thing with Seb?
Take it easy Ify, Scarface, Laydback, Lilli & the rest of the original crew. I may stop back in when the Kill Bill DVDs come out, but for now, I’m gonna take a nice long vacation. Ahhhh. See ya!
Not long enough.

Don’t let these idiots get to you Pete. I’m actually getting a hell of a kick out of their moronic posts.

And LMAO at the Bogdanovich quote. If he said so then I surely must be wrong! Here’s a tip dutchfarter. God gave you a brain. Use it to make up your own judgement fuckhead. That Bogdanovich quote doesn’t prove shit neither to me nor to anyone else with half a brain that can make up his own mind on a movie.

Gonna miss ya pete…later!

You’re so right. Why listen to Bogdanovich? He only knew Hitchcock. He only conducted one of the best interviews with Hitchcock (second to Truffaut’s). He’s only an authority on the subject. I would be better off listening to the critics Scarface and Popeye Pete. The fact that they don’t know ass about film shouldn’t keep me from agreeing with everything they say. They are the authority on all things “cool”.

And about whther or not De Palma is better than Hitchcock… they are both great. It’s impossible to say but if I was going to give an opinion on who’s better than who I’d have to take into consideration that Hitchcock didn’t need De Palma’s filmography to make the movies he’s revered for. However, without Hitchcock’s filmography De Palma wouldn’t have made 3/4th’s of the films he’s famous for. He’d still be making meandering anti-social character studies like “Hi, Mom!”, “Greetings”, and “The Wedding Party”. I’d put Hitchcock’s worst against those any day of the week.

Hitchcock was a complete original. His success was not dependent on De Palma. However, De Palma’s success was almost completely dependent on Hitch…

But again, they are both favorites of mine. So why choose?

Here, here! Bravo!

Ok then Einstein, care to explain what Bogdanovich meant when he said - “If you’re not a fan of Marnie then you’re not a fan of Hitchcock” ?. Let us see you explain your own arguments instead of pasting quotes at random. And please, try not to use google anymore.

He meant if you can tolerate so-so Hitchcock, you are a true fan!

Use google? I was using “The Trouble with Marnie” a featurette by Bouzereau that can be found on the “Marnie” DVD. Bogdanovich was one of the critics/filmmakers interviewed for the piece. It would take more time than I care to explain what he meant. Also, I doubt you would even understand if you don’t already by the quote so I will give just a couple of examples. First, “Marnie” has a bunch of Hitchcock motifs. Any fan of his cinema would notice this and be impressed by it. It features a blond muse (i.e. Grace Kelly who was originally supposed to be in it). It has the Hitchcockian psychological elements (i.e. “Vertigo”, “Spellbound” etc.). It has Freudian symbolism (i.e. “North by Northwest”, “To Catch a Thief” etc.). It has mother issues (i.e. “Notorious”, “Psycho” etc.). It has fear of imprisonment (from Hitchcock’s childhood - you can read Spoto’s “The Dark Side of Genius” for more on that - “The Wrong Man”). The list goes on and on…

If you don’t get it then you don’t get it. That’s why I said earlier that it’s a true litmus test. It separates the “fans”.

And for anyone interested I would suggest checking out any of Bogdanovich’s interviews with Hitchcock to understand why he may know more about the man and his films than Scarface and Popeye Pete.

this guy is a real douche-bag.

You need to stop sucking Bogdanovich’s cock, Mr.
Good answer, more words than I would have wasted on them, but good answer!

Look out world, Marnie features a blonde muse and mother issues! That should automatically propell it amongst Hitch’s best!. Haha, your reasoning is pathetic dutch. Please try harder, and without watching your special features in the Hitch boxset next time. For me, Marnie was boring and the plot incredibly stupid to say the least. I could give two fucks if it has Freudian symbolism or not, a movie should at the very least hold your attention. Vertigo, North By Northwest, Psycho, Rear Window do that. Marnie does not.

And Bonedaddy
He meant if you can tolerate so-so Hitchcock, you are a true fan!
Thanks for proving my point.

I never said it was one of his best. I just said it was a true litmus test. It divides fans into two groups. According to the quote I used one group is full of poseurs who say they’re fans and another group is full of people who really are. If you don’t understand that then there’s nothing I can say to help you. I’ve already tried to explain the quote and all you can respond with is that it’s “boring” and “the plot is incredibly stupid”. Nice retort. You’ve definitely proven me wrong.

And if you didn’t get the plot to “Marnie”. If you found it “incredibly stupid” then how in the hell did you sit through “Vertigo” and “North By Northwest” (two films you mentioned as being good enough for your highbow sensibilities). Give me a break.

Also, I don’t have the box set. But I do own “Marnie” along with a handful of other Hitchcock DVDs.

So I should like Marnie to be a Hitch fan, otherwise I’d be a poser? Who the fuck gives you or anybody the right to judge if I’m a Hitch fan or not based on one film? This coming from the same guy who dismisses anybody liking all Tarantino’s films as a blind follower. Give me a break and get lost, will you? And why are you still visiting this place anyway? Weren’t you going to leave like one week ago?

Pete thinks he has that same right - but while he’s on vacation this guy can assume that responsiblity.

Dude, go kick Bogdanovich’s ass. It’s his quote. What do you care anyway? You need to lighten up. Also, I never said anyone liking Tarantino’s films is a “blind follower”. I said that anyone going by what he says as the gospel truth just because he makes great films is a blind follower. But even if I had said that what do you care? You really need to stop taking things so seriously. For fuck’s sake, this thread is about whether or not De Palma (there’s a space there by the way) or Hitchcock is the better filmmaker. The whole purpose of this thread was to start a debate. So for you to be getting so bent out of shape is very sad.

You guys take things way too seriously. I quoted someone. I was then asked to explain the quote and I did (twice). It’s not my quote. I may agree with it but I could care less who is a true fan or isn’t (whatever that means) or whether or not everyone hates or loves “Marnie”. I really don’t give a shit and I can’t understand why Scarface or the trendy dude who quotes Vonnegut care so deeply about such a meaningless thing like who is a true fan or not or whether or not everybody thinks they are a true fan or not. Who cares? You are all “true fans”. You are the “biggest fans ever”. Now you can go back to pretending to read “Breakfast of Champions”.
Bogdanovich is a dooche. Wasn’t he the one to criticize Leone so heavily because his films weren’t set in the “real world”? I think that was him.
Leone asked him to direct “Duck You Sucker”. He flew him to the set and they had a huge fight. Bogdanovich did criticize him but not about that. And Bogdanovich is a douche not because of that but because he wears those scarves in his collars. He’s also an authority on film if that matters.
