Thanks. This is one review I missed, unless this is the guy they interviewed on NPR recently. That guy praised it as the most fun movie at the festival.
Yes he also seems to understand that he is watching a Tarantino movie and not another director’s work and doesnt spend have the article moaning about this movie has no substance or no message or the characters arent well developed yada yada

Nazi’s as bad guys?! How dare he.

Well, he is aware that he’s doing it with a dark sense of humor and this is a comic book, Americans are the best kind of film that doesn’t take itself seriously so it’s good that the Nazis are evil villians and henchmen. But the Germans do rightfully get angry at some movies like Spielbergs and all those “Serious Art” war films that try to portray the ugly side of war but neglect to show that the Wehrmecht weren’t just faceless unhumanly monsters in grey tunics.

Yeah, it’s funny how posters like the kids on IMDB boards talk up a storm about how the nazis are being portrayed as one-dimensional bad guys. Which is funny considering Tarantino wrote Landa as extremely charming and Zoller as extremely sweet. Even the guy who gets his head bashed in gets a small narration by Sam Jackson, giving the audience a bit of background info to let us know that he is human and not just some faceless a-hole.

Why do people think they know how to make Quentin’s movie better than Quentin? He’s telling us the story he wants to tell us. Why can’t people shed their fucking “expectations” and just enjoy the show?

I agree with you to a cetain point, but QT is a good filmaker, and this movie is reall making people sycked as all hell to see it. With a film maker like him, what you’re asking is almost impossible. There’s a thread in here where one of ours members says that when Quentin comes out with a movie, it’s an event, I’m paraphrasing, but that’s the jist of what he’s saying, and I agree, it’s huge, cause people want to see what and/or if he’ll top himself, especially now that he’s treading in new territory. I understand what you’re saying though, no one can make a QT flick better than him, and they shouldn’t even try, but to completely shed their exspectations? i don’t know about that. People will let IB take them where it will and hopefully enjoy it, but if it doesn’t, it’s because of who QT is and how good he is.
There is a great interview with QT in the new issue of les cahiers du cinéma. he talks about his influences (Hitler’s Madman, To be or not to Be, Man Hunt, Renoir…). he also talks about the process of writing the film. after reading this, i’d love the read the previous drafts of the screenplay, read all the different stories, the different characters he invented but didn’t use…
www.cahiersducinema.com (i think there is an English version somewhere on the site…)

excellent review on the occasion of tonight’s vienna premiere from the most recognized and readable daily newspaper in austria:
http://derstandard.at/ sorry, in german only. so either start your translation engine - or just believe me.
I read it without purchasing it, so I’m unable to write it accurately, but the critic gives a refreshingly impersonal and perceptive review of the film, wasting little time on frivolities and truly takes his peers to school on how to review a film.
Some of the highlights include an in depth examination of the use of language as a motif throughout the film, and an eye-opening look at the Jewish soldiers in the Apache situation. It never gets heady or pretentious, and sticks entirely to the actual content of the film, and completely free of any of the baseless, Hail-Mary thinking that one usually associates with subtextual reviews. It certainly gives one a greater appreciation on the kind of thought Tarantino put into his war movie.
All in all, the critic quotes the films final line “I think this just might be my masterpiece” as Brad Pitt carves his last swastika, and Tarantino carves the films final shot, and adds: “while immodest, both may very well be right”.
So in Tarantinos world view burning the ‘Nazis’ alive with the proclamation “this is the face of Jewish vengeance” is an ending, a happy ending?, a vengeful ending?
Seems to me that the movie hasnt even begun to be criticised on the liberties it has taken.

Do you understand the old Greek language? Im not fluent but holocaust has its place in thier verbal and documented dictionary. It means to burn entirely. So who am I to deny the holocaust of German civilians. Tarantino however is perverting the holocaust into a scenario where a bunch of Nazi officals who are directly linked with an anti jewish migrant from the east mentality get burned alive ending.
Do your home work,
