Che get's screwed

I am at a loss. How on earth can Benicio Del Toro be denied an oscar nom, nor any award attention whatsoever after such a startling and powerful performance. It was certainly better than several nominated performances. Of course this is all my opinion. I personally think the reason is that the Academy aren’t required to watch every film, they watch what they want and just vote. If they were forced to watch every film and I think it would be prudent to rewatch them also, the nominations would be much different.

I definitely believe that they should be required to watch every film. It’s their job, isn’t it? I say we boycott the whole thing. If IB doesn’t get nominated next year, I’ll never watch another academy awards show again. That’s a promise.

lol that’s a hell of a suggestion, and I’m very optimistic that it will be nominated, it’s definitely got potential to be nominated for Art Direction, Costumes, Cinematography and writing for sure. It depends whether or not it strikes a cord with audiences for it to get major recognition. Melanie Laurent could definitely get a best actress nom if she’s good enough, Shoshanna’s a fantastic role, as well as Waltz or Pitt for best supporting actor.

Every year there are some complains about this or that movie/actor/blabla not being nominated. Benicio Del Toro got at least recognition at the Cannes film fest. I was for myself surprised that Joaquin Phoenix didn’t get a nomination and I’m sure a lot of other users can bring their own disappointement.

I don’t know how it is for the oscars, but I think in France, when the “academy” has voted for the nominations, they all got dvds from the movies nominated to make their final vote and choose a winner in each category. Which is smarter to be sure everybody watches every movie before voting.

benicio del toro won a price in cannes, it’s has good as an oscar… i remember, QT was really pissed in 1992 because RD was submitted but got no nominations. he said smg like “they receive a tape, they watch it while doing other things, making phone call, fast forwarding… their job is to watch films in a theater and really watch them… if they are too lazy to do so, fuck them!”

I don’t think being recognized at cannes means he shouldn’t be recognized now. One shouldn’t cancel out the other. The best man should win, or at least be nominated and in this case, as with many years they aren’t.

Since this is the only Che thread I seen on here, does anyone have any info on a U.S. release date on a dvd/Blu-ray?
