I thought bastard was someone without a father?
I was also thinking that maybe it was for censorship and commercial reasons.
But reading the script, it’s clear it’s just a spelling mistake. So I find it kinda funny when people start saying Basterds too, haha.
Why would this script be all full of bad spelling and his other scripts werent? Its gotta be on purpose. He wouldve corrected all those words. Isnt there other words that arent misspelled? QT doesnt know how to spell bastard? Thats BS.
I was off for some days and just read the news about Dicaprio probably being in the cast. I’m a bit lazy to re-read all the previous posts about that news right now, but I gotta say I’m REALLY excited about Leo being in. One of my fav actor.
I’ve read in a french mag too, in an interview of Tim Roth that he’s still talking with QT about a role in IB, though he’s not sure about anything.
Since we haven’t much names yet for the cast, only Brad and Leo for the moments. Sounds like QT is gonna start with new famous actors, less indie ones. It really sounds IB is gonna be something new in his career.
Quentin has admitted he can’t spell. He misspelled “inglorious” as well.
Maybe an executive or someone adjusted the script to include the spelling errors so people would think it was fake along with the ‘kindergarton’ cover page, haha. ^-^

QT is dyslexic isn’t he? I think it’s very plausible that he can’t spell bastard. The script is full of spelling mistakes. The Death Proof script also had a lot of spelling mistakes. From the letter’s I’ve seen that he’s sent to people, he has spelling mistakes there too.
OK, I didnt know he was dyslexic until recently. If thats the case, then it makes sense. Its just all his other scripts had no mistakes like the ones in Basterds.

This whole discussion is getting really dumb.

I agree with this statement.
Yes, I did start this topic but 9 pages on, I don’t even feel I can banter with the sort of discussion going on… Eli Roth?
And to add my two cents. Eli Roth should be locked up for crimes against cinema. How any fucktard could finance his projects will remain a mystery to me. He can’t write, he cannot build suspense and he is totally shambolic as a horror film director.
And in regards to QT being dylsexic. Not true. He just has some minor bad spelling because he writes so fast and gets so excited, he can’t be arsed to be punctual.

Amen to that.
Why are people saying QT is dyslexic of hes not? Shouldnt you get actual facts before saying that stuff?
Maybe he just scribbles very fast and spells by how words sound instead of the actual spelling. Also, why wouldnt he spellcheck names like Goebell or whatever it is as he was typing the actual script? Its on purpose.
QT doesnt have ANY dictionaries or articles printed out with these peoples names then? That cant be true either.
He also refuses to use the word “an” when it preceeds a word beginning with a vowel.
EG: “The Bastards will leave in a hour”… instead of an hour, every time he does this. He doesn’t talk like this, so it’s unusual he writes the way.
Why would someone misspell words on purpose in a script? What artistic end could be served by misspelling words in a script?
He may be dyslexic or he may just be a lousy speller but I don’t believe he misspelled them on purpose.
Its one thing to write a script in longhand and have mistakes, but to then type it all and purposely NOT spellcheck your errors? Its too much on purpose. Who does that? QT wouldnt do that unless he was trying to make the errors part of the story itself.
None of his previous scripts were full of really bad spelling errors. Im pretty sure he typed all of them himself too.
The typist probably just typed whatever he wrote and didn’t bother to check spelling.
I found an old Vanity Fair article from 2003 that said he didn’t type or use computers.
I always thought QT typed out his own scripts. He used the same typewriter for all of em I think too.
How the fuck can spelling errors be part of a story?
I think the grammar and spelling errors are cute.
ETA: Annoying to a degree, but cute.

I dont know, maybe its a certain way the character talks.
Example: [German Accent] You Basterd!
Of course I haven’t read the script, but so what if he cant spell? He’s got people to fix that kind of shit.
Thought of someone else who would be really cool in IB…Tom Atkins!

Someone said he was writing in character. Like method writing and he took on the attributes of the illiterate character. I DIDNT SAY THAT. Someone else did.
I dont know, but whatever the hell it is, it was done on purpose. Theres no way he put it out that way expecting people to see all those mistakes and accept it.
Lets give QT a little credit here. It was done on purpose.
He also spelt descriptive words (that won’t be mentioned in the film) wrong e.g. he spelt “Morricone” wrong.
