I’m from Finland and I’m not a big fan of our movies but there’s two I really like:
Pitkä kuuma kesä (Long Hot Summer)
Rock ‘n’ roll comedy about an up-coming band set in 1980, when dozens of Finnish rock bands dominated the charts here. It’s a little clumsy, a little amateurishly directed, acted and edited but also funny as hell and a sympathetic portrayal of not-so-bright young kids.
Paha maa (A Bad Country)
Easily the most depressing Finnish movie ever made. Seven different episodes about people whose lifes are somehow connected to each other. The beginning episode story continues in the last episode which doesn’t work that well cause it had the worst character development and in the end we don’t really care about the main character of that story. But otherwise very strong movie and a couple of really great performances.

I loved the book! I had read it before I seen the film.
Another great wee Scottish film is Whiskey Galore. Brilliant film.

I wanted to buy it, but when I looked at the first page I decided not to. I couldn’t understand a word! 
I bought A Clockwork Orange instead. Also hard, with the Russian words and all, but you get used to that.

I think I have it in French, maybe I’ll try to read it. I’ve read Trainspotting in French, easier
is Trainspotting written the way its spoken in the film? cool ;D the screenplay isn’t, i’ve read it

Exactly, I want to read books in their original language (only English and Dutch books that is). Same with movies, I’m not gonna watch a dubbed movie either.
Yep, the book is written the way it is spoken in the movie, I saw it in a Belgian bookstore last year. Too bad, I really wanted to read it.

Yes, it’s awesome! I have seen a French copy before and read the first page, it is just not the same. You need those words only a Scotsman can say!

Of course, I lost a lot by reading it in French, but I was young so I couldn’t easily understand English. I wanna read it, so I didn’t wait.
But I always watch movies with their original langages, never in French, oh god no !
Same here, I always watch movies in the language they were made in, need the subtitles though, I’m not that good!

I hate dubbed movies! And I also want to read as much as possible in the oiriginal language…as long as my knowledge of that language lets me read it

Sometimes you can switch the audio on the german movies on tv…with digittal tv that has gotta be even more easy, or isnt it?
all my biography books (about 5) are translated, but the others (Hunter S Thompson stuff) is in English cause it’s impossible to translate, 90% of his work is how he phrases the phrases he phrases 8) with biographies it’s just about the content and the facts, not the style of the writer
Have you ever seen the English-dubbed version of Run Lola Run (Lola Rennt) - it is so bad, it doesn’t even match up to what is being said. Stay clear of it!

Switch the audio of a movie that’s on tv? I don’t think that’s possible, you can’t even switch subtitles on or off on tv.

Yeah, you can switch from stereo to mono…the mono sound is in english. But thats only sometimes…

Really? Wow, I didn’t know that. That is fucking cool. How do I know if a movie is gonna be in English too? Just try, or does it say that somewhere?
