Battle Royale (Kinji Fukasaku - 2000)

Do you plan to see BR2 too?

Although many people don´t like it that much, I think it is not that bad to see.

Go and see it! If I’d told you right now, it’s really bad to see, you wouldn’t believe me, anyway. So watch “Battle Royale 2” and make up your own mind. It is REALLY that bad, in my opinion. A dumb and bad movie, makes me wanna cry, but, as someone else somewhere once said: “It was nice to see some kids heads getting blown off”.

Hope its good, cost me $13 including shipping. Couldnt find it anywhere near me for rent.

Did you get the original cut or the special edition?

Ok, someone help me out here: I heard that extra blood was digitally added for the special edition, so my question is does the blood look extra CGI-like/fake/whatever in the SE compared to the original? Because I just saw the trailer a few days ago, which i’m guessing was for the original version, and all of the blood in it looked pretty realistic. But when I saw the movie on the big screen at a university a few months back, it looked like it was something out of a video game. But i’m not quite sure what the answer is because the movie was shown from a dvd player instead of actual film, which might have been why everything looked like that.

So…somebody give me answers, please

oh, I didn’t even know there were tow versions :o

I rented it more than a year ago, and I think the idea is good, but I can’t say I really enjoyed it… I don’t know, it’s hard to explain, but I felt it was lacking… ehrm… something I can’t put in words.

…nudity

I’ve got both versions and (For the most part) the blood appears to be the same. Something tells me that there was an added gush when Kitano removes his knife from the student’s skull though. I gotta check.

Ive got the Directors Cut. In mine, no blood comes from the students head when Kitano pulls the knife out.

I thought it was pretty good! It’s just pure mindless violence and good looking actors. As for lacking something, It was probably that it was just “pure mindless violence And good looking actors” and not enough Substance. When you watch it, just give your brain a rest.

Yeah, in some of the action-scenes CGI-blood has been added. Wasn’t necessary, if you ask me, but I don’t care either. And yes, sometimes it looks a little like something out of a videogame, but the gushes were always so short, you won’t be bothered for more than 1 and a half second. It doesn’t spoil anything, but maybe your asking the wrong person here, I also thought, the CGI-blood in “Zatoichi” was fine. Besides that, the directors-cut of “Battle Royale” is the better version to buy, it adds more melodrama and gives a little more edge to some of the characters, especially Mitsuko. And there is no gush whatsoever, when Kitano pulls the knife from the students head.

yeah, no blood comes out for sure.

I was watching a behind the scenes thing on Battle Royale and it shows how they did that part. Kitano just puts the knife behind the girls head so it likes like its inside from the cameras angle, and the girl budges her head a little bit when he lifts the knife up

…oldest trick in the book

I heard that this was QT’s favourite film, so  thought I’d check it out.

It had me screaming, it was way too violent, it should be banned. I had to turn it off and put the dvd in the freezer. I’ll be having nightmares for weeks and weeks  :’( .

Hahahaha

It is cartoon violence compared to some movies like Star 80(Closeup of a shotgun to the face.) . It is supposed to be like that. It is a tale of violence with no moral center(I meant at times it is ambigous.). It is supposed to be vilolent,I mean it is a story of Kids killing themselves in creative ways. What is your grudge with asian movies? I mean it is a masturpiece. It is one of Fukasaku’s best. Maybe violent but sometimes a movie that has that effect on you is great.

yesterday i watched Battle Royale for the first time. unfortunately a version cut by 8 minutes, and all the score cards were removed. but still a great film, i am looking forward to see it uncut
