So he had to buy the rights even though he spelled it differently? WTF?
I know. Somebody could go ahead and make a movie with that title and, if taken to court, he/she could get away with it just because of that misspelling. Strange.
I guess that’s just personal taste then. Vol. 1 did move pretty fast, but I guess I just didn’t like the scenes in the end. Even the dialogue scenes like Elle visiting The Bride, Tanaka Clan stuff. I find that boring, but other things like The Bride with Hattori Hanzo I like. In Vol. 2 it was mainly the end. The pregnancy scenes, the Superman monologue, talking with Bill (after the B.B. scenes)… that went onnnn. I agree about DP and what he says too though.
I can’t agree, love all that dialogue, I honestly loved it all.

Maybe he decided to change the name after buying the rights?

Total bullshit, but that’s the business side of the industry who lack common sense and decency. If he hadn’t bought the rights, they’d have sued him for profiting off the original’s likeness. Just look at that Indian film Hari Puttar, Warner Bros. sued cause the titles were too similar, case was thrown out but still. Total Bullshit.
Well he also probably wanted to acknowledge the tribute he was paying to that film despite it having very little in common… for QT, it probably had little to do with business side.

Maybe thats it. He couldve bought it a long time ago too. Before the OU and E thing was decided on.

Funny, I thought it was the best part of Volume 2, finally when we discover the heart of the movie, the truthfulness of the two characters. What a beautiful and unexpected way to end a revenge movie. Even the most absurd kung fu technique becomes meaningful.
It’s cool to see though that QT is aware of his situation and weaknesses, and then he decided to try to correct them for his next movie. It just confirms what I thought when reading the script for this one, which is very focused on characters and mood. Definitely no Death Proof at all.

Could well be, the man ain’t stupid so this seems like the reason.

this is super old news (on a sidenote), but also, i think this is common practise to avoid legal issues pre-emptively. they also own a whole bunch of rights to elmore leonard novels, just in case he should ever sit down and turn them into amazing movies or maybe as atonement for the one he once shoplifted

A little blurb about that article from the independent about the “real” basterds.

I think that might be QTs weakness as a filmmaker. Luxuriating in scenes too much. If he can get a grip on that aspect, his films will be better for it.

I agree 100%. Death Proof could have cut out alot of the dialogue between the women. I don’t think he’ll do that in IB.

I don’t agree at all. For death proof it was an advantage for me. Watch Jaws, the shark is mostly only talked about. It’s all about character and the same goes for Death Proof.

Fuck yeah! I don’t know how much QT’s movies would be his movies if there weren’t those long periods of wonderful dialogue that’s secretly character development.

Did you just compare Jaws to death Proof? :-</E>
Death Proof isnt as good as Jaws. Sorry folks.
Death Proof isn’t as good as a hell of a lot movies and I make no apology for that.
Next… Inglourious Basterds coverage please…

Of course it’s not as good as Jaws, Where did you read me say that? I was talking about the similarities in storytelling between them. Jesus, some people really need to pull their heads out of their asses.
I like Death Proof more than Jaws.
We really should stay on topic. We dont want this to become another topic about Death Proof. If you really want to discuss it, just go into a DP topic. Lets calm down with the anger too etc. Stay happy guys, Basterds is coming soon!

I had a basterds dream last night, first one since I read the script last year. My biggest fear going into tommorrow is that Basterds get’s savaged by critics. not because what they think really matters, but the smug little reviews/stories that’ll pop up on every one of those bullshit geek websites talking about how Quentin’s lost it and whatever. I might shoot myself over the nauseum.
