Australian Grindhouse News

Not in Australia, NZ and UK. Granted Europe was gearing up for the split beforehand, but we were expecting the double feature. Because it does translate. Europe may be different. But my dad remembers the days of double features. Plus, Australia used to make a shitload of cool exploitation films back in the day. But for some reason, no one would like to remember it, even those who were there.

It translates well… It translates Very WELL… My mother also remembers Double features … Anyway saying they’ll release it here as a double feature and then flip flopping if indeed they have… is whats got me pissed… its got me Smok’in… a smokers a smoker when the chips are down… …

Actually if the little film i will hopefully be working on soon goes the way i think… then you can pritty much add it to the Australian exploitation list… yesssss
I dont really give a damn if the movies commercial or not…
Why would you? It’s not your money.
Also I don’t care to pay twice to see the same movie just because the producers are considering splitting the film into two segments for the rest of its theatrical run in an attempt to increase revenue…
You wouldn’t be paying twice to see the same film, unless you consider Death Proof and Planet Terror to be the same film.
And just what the hell are they going to do with the trailers anyway?
They can run two before PT and run the other two before DP.

Your making it seem like i said more then i actually did… If you actually want to be silly enough to put me in their places ( either the directors or the producers ) then of course ill say i would consider the integrity more important then the money, but where’s the point in that? What you just said is meaningless because all i meant was nothing more then what i said, that I dont care about how commercial the film is ( Context: when i consider the films merits ) and thats my perspective as a FAN nothing more and i am just that a FAN. I cant be expected to put myself in their place, and i already stated that i wanted the film to be successful financially anyway.

Why should money be more important then the integrity of the film? ( course what i want is generally from the perspective of a greedy fan… pardon me if this place is full of people who hold a films gross in such hi regard ) as a fan i dont appreciate a film based on how much money its made or even how broadly popular it is… Do the directors consider the integrity of there films more important then how much money they make? I hope not…

Ok i wrote that last part poorly ( which i do often ) but it should be pritty obvious why im saying that… America - Grindhouse - double feature - 1 ticket

They can… wheres the novelty in that… BTW my opinion may not reflect whats " best " for the film

The point is that the films work independent of each other as well. The double-feature experience isn’t commercially justified, at least in the states. If you want to see the films in their original version, great, I hope you get your chance, but the Weinstein’s are commercially justified going with their plan B release.

Stuntman Mike B you are technically correct… the BEST kind of correct…

Well, Australia has a Death Proof release date. How does 8 November sound? :stuck_out_tongue:

That sucks.

Hi guys,

I’m new to this forum… just been trying to soak up as much information regarding the release of Grindhouse in Australia as I can.

I managed to see this movie in Canada while I was on holiday a few months ago. The rumor was that it was going to be split for the Australian audience.

My opinion is that the double feature concept works especially with the fake trailers!

I would like to see this movie again, as a whole here in Australia…but now I’m not sure that will be possible. I feel that Planet terror and Death Poof shown separately will lose a lot of there appeal 'coz I believe they were designed to be shown together and independently they will not be in “context”.

Angel where did you find out about the release date of Death Proof? Is that official?

Thanks

Damn it. That’s interstate. I go back to Uni in three days. Maybe, just maybe I could do it. It would be great to see it, that’s for sure.

The Chauvel is actually playing a whole bunch of other grindhouse films as well.

lol id have to travel from tassie…

Its tempting to fly down there just to see it… if only they’d do it in brisbane…

It’s actually a possibility I think. I am contemplating it.

In related news, for those who live near Brisbane (like I do), the Globe Theatre is playing Pulp Fiction on the cinema screen as part of a double feature with Fear and Loathing. I’ll definitely be going to see it.

I may go… but last time i went to see a film in brisbane the race to get to the theater on time almost killed me…

The Brain that wouldn’t die / The hideous sun daemon double feature also looks good…

Are you referring to when we both went to see Inland Empire? It was those damn trains, I planned it out perfectly but didn’t expect that we’d have to be bused halfway.

Yeah… those trains are tricky… i remember we almost didnt get on the right one because it came from the wrong direction… when i said " what if it goes back the way it came?" i didnt really expect that it would be doing just that… if i hadnt… we might have just stood there like retards and missed the film…
