A Film Mentioned By Tarantino

In a recent interview, he recommended a film to the interviewer. He said it did for Japan what Pulp Fiction did for America. Does anyone remember the title of the film? If anyone has seen the film, please share your thoughts.

Thanks!

Is this some really bad riddle because I have no idea what you’re talking about

He/She (sorry, dont know your gender, PURE.) is just

asking what the name of the film QT mentioned, is.

sorry PURE, I dont know it.

but if it did for Japan, what PULP FICTION did for America,

Id like to see it to!

I want to say Battle Royale, but I don’t really know. I’ll ask around and try to find that interview.

samurai fiction, maybe? but i thought that movie was boring as shit

This was from the Entertainment Weekly interview. The film was “Shallowtail Butterfly”, and QT said that it did for that director in his country, what Pulp did for QT in his. From descriptions of the plot on IMDB, it doesn’t sound like a similar type of film. Additionally, I think he mentioned that this film’s soundtrack was great make-out music.

I’m more interested in his praise of Brian Trenchard-Smith in that same interview. Has anyone seen Trenchard’s films?

I have Swallowtail Butterfly on VCD (3 discs).
Please don´t ask about the quality of this VCD... :-/
But it is a great movie!
My version is 148 min long, the cover text is mainly in hm...japanese or chinese. On the cover stands "Japanese version with english and chinese Subtitles",

He Seb, if you wanna see the movie, ICQ me and I will send it to you.

Brian Trenchard-Smith? His filmography looks very lame on the face of it. Does anyone know exactly what QT said about his movies?
