Just a few directors coming out with great films this year/ films that already came out: Oliver Stone, Johnathan Demme, Kevin Smith, Diablo Cody (writer of Jennifer’s Body), Spike Lee, Clint Eastwood, Coens, Chris Nolan, Steven Spielberg…
And others, man what a year it has been and what a year it will be! ;D
I think it wasn’t an all great movie year. a few movies really stood out, but I think 2009 will totally be better
I think 2009 looks like this
Nothing
nothing
nothing
another bloody pink panther movie…
nothing
another friday the 13th movie…
nothing
That god awful looking dragonball movie…
nothing
nothing
Then some time in august ( i cant reacall )
Inglourious Basterds!!!
nothing for the rest of the year…
( things to look out for - that john carpenter film with nicolas cage… and maybe power of the dark crystal )
2008 was just people telling me how Wall-E is great and how I should see it before I die, and that Heath Ledger was the shit and did the best role ever played as the joker, which made batman the film of the year etc. Oh, also we had Indy 4, yaaay !! Oh, and btw, we’ve also seen Bienvenue chez les ch’tis becoming the best french movie ever made…errrrr
Seriously, I agree on that great films were released in 2008, but I got really annoyed by the general opinion this year, everybody who was not crazy about cinema kept talking about the same movies.
This year I really got the impression that no matter how shitty a movie is, it still can hit the box office thanks to marketing, that sucks.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that all this marketing bullcrap was new in 2008, it’s just that I became a lot more aware about it this year.
You’re pretty much right - for the general audience, 2008 was : The Dark Night, Wall-E and Bienvenu chez les ch’tis.
For me, 2008 was : Juno, The Darjeeling Limited, No Country For Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Two Lovers, Be Kind Rewind, and I might forget A LOT.
2009 doesn’t sound that exciting for now. But it’s always hard to tell before the year actually really starts. I can’t wait to see Jennifer’s Body, more of Diablo Cody and of course Inglourious Basterds. And that’s pretty much everything for now…
2009 will be awesome for the following reasons:
Inglourious Basterds
Avatar
Watchmen
Public Enemies
And I hope McG doesn’t screw up Terminator, or else I’ll hunt him down and scalp his head.
I’m very interested in what could Avatar be on big screen. Cameron is like working on it since so many years. I really try to stay away from spoilers to be all surprised. It still seems like a mysterious project even if the release date isn’t that far now.
I’ll add The Box directed by Richard Kelly, supposed to be released in the end of this year. The synopsis is very…interesting and weird. Ever since I watched Donnie Darko, I’m following his projects very closely ^^
Maybe I’m the only one excited by this project here
Richard Kelly is a weird bird. What happened to Southland Tales ? Never released in France. Did it even in the USA and rest of the world ? So I might not be so sure The Box will even be released this year…

Southland Tales was released on DVD I think in the USA and maybe other countries…not sure about that. It’s like an epic Donnie Darko, I didn’t like it that much.
The production of the Box is nearly over, and it seems we can expect a release on December, probably straight to DVD though.

I know close to nothing about it, but it’s being hyped like it’s Christ’s second coming.
Cameron is working on it since ten years, since Titanic or even before… It has to be Christ’s second coming (even the substitute of the first coming, ahaha).
