Ahah, I was myself surprised to see that Control was released in Sweden.
No Country for Old Men is awesome, I’m glad you like it, Tim
Just saw it the other day, pre-release in Belgium
And thanks so much for recommending 2 days in paris to me Loved it so much!!
I told you, I love Julie Delpy and her vision of Paris is so funny !
Have you seen My Blueberry Nights ? Last recommandation I gave you, I think (was it any other movie ?).
Jep, saw and loved that too! Jude Law is awesome in that movie
Awesome, very cool if you could like them all. I gotta keep recommanding you movies
Kiss of Death 8/10
Knock on Any Door 9/10
Ace in the Hole 9/10
Mi Chiamo Alleluyah - 9/10
Being John Malkovich 6/10
I was bit disappointed with this movie, it’s quite good, a lot of good things but still messy.
The Ring 2/10
wtf… how can people get scared by that crap?
Cloverfield 5.5/10
Of course the hype made this movie look stupid, but I knew it wasn’t going to match it. You can’t hype a movie without something to hype. It helps to hype a movie like this if the outcome was something common to viewers, like if it turned out to be Godzilla, etc. Hyping a movie with a brand new monster, of course people is going to be turned down, because all that hype for a monster they are not familiar with.
With all that being said, and all hype aside, I don’t think they could made the movie any better than what it is. It is what it is. A fun movie for the theaters, rather than on a t.v., just for the intensity level in a big-open theater.
Non-Asian movies I’ve been watching this year so far (for everything else check back with the Asian Movie Diary in the respective thread):
Four Rooms (USA, 1995)
Disappointing. Mostly tedious and not really funny. Some very bad acting.
- German DVD
Frenzy (UK, 1972)
Good one, surprisingly gritty. The conclusion could’ve been a little bit more “personal”, though.
- German DVD
The Lord of the Rings (USA, 2001-2003)
Had the chance to watch them back-to-back in the extended Version on a big screen. Absolute perfection.
- German DVD
The green Berets (USA, 1968)
Rather embarrassing piece of propaganda. Action-scenes were as unexciting as they get.
- German DVD
A Scanner Darkly (USA, 2006)
Anarchic Indie-Thriller with some hillarious and sardonic side-blows at governmental control regulations.
- Theater
Freddy vs. Jason (USA, 2003)
More of an all-out Action-Farce than actual Horror. Has a surprisingly oldschool feel (in a good way).
- TV
Tideland (Canada/UK, 2005)
Fascinating dark elements, yet leaves a lot to be desired. Too much random fantasy without a real theme.
- German DVD
Dr. Strangelove or How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (UK, 1964)
Old movie, but with shockingly up-to-date relevance. Still a blast (humour-wise), without being superficial.
- German DVD
Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth (USA, 1992)
Crap. Where’s the terror of parts 1 and 2 gone? Acting qualities of subterranean quality, cheap TV-look.
- UK-DVD
Some like it Hot (USA, 1959)
Quite charming, loved the Chicago setting. The men-dress-as-women theme has become a little old, though.
- German DVD
Rambo: First Blood Part II (USA, 1985)
Politically dubious, but still one of the most awesome action-movies of all times. Some insane explosions.
- German DVD
The Replacement Killers (USA, 1998)
One of Hollywoods most proficient and satisfying attempt at doing Bullet Ballet the Hong-Kong Way. Slick and straightforward, it becomes a lot more emotional in the Extended Version. Mira Sorvino is sexy as hell, but what really makes it work, is Chow Yun-Fats natural display of coolness.
- German DVD
Cloverfield 7.5/10
Atonement 6.5/10
Body and Soul 9/10
Major Dundee 8.5/10
Harakiri 10/10
Small Change 6/10
Death Sentence 6.5/10
Shoot Em UP 5/10 it seems everybody here gave this peice of shit about the same rating, that was my original rating though. Im not a copy cat.
For me “Shoot 'em up” was one of the coolest and most entertaining flicks I’ve seen in 2007.
Other favorites were “The Rebel” (Vietnam), “I’m a cyborg but that’s okay”, “An American Crime”, “Dog bite Dog” and “Shooter” (Wahlberg).

When my brother and I watched Shoot 'Em Up, we kept going, “what the fuck?! That wouldn’t happen…oh, wait, how stupid of us - you cannot apply logic to this film.” And we just went with it, because it was so obviously meant to be absolutely and completely ridiculous.
But then I watched a featurette with the director and he was way too serious about it. He was talking about character motivation and all this shit. That’s when it was ruined for me. The guy couldn’t even admit that everything about that film was completely illogical.
Well, that’s one reason why I don’t watch Featurettes or Behind-the-Scenes.
In one way or the other they always tend to spoil a good impression a movie might’ve had, especially a Making-of has that tendency.
And I hardly buy DVD Special-Editions for myself, either.

Seen two of those, included one on my top-10 worst movies seen last year list
ok, I’m gonna take example from Dice and keep the asian ratings to their topic only. Re-watches included from now on.

Romeo + Juliet (USA, 1996) - 3/10
Leo and Claire are cute, one extra point for both. Otherwise this boring film is not worth the effort. Some of the problems originate from the original story but most is thanks to Baz the wild Luhrmann.
- dvd / Fox
Patriot Games (USA, 1992) – 7/10
Better than I remembered. Excellent and realistic action thriller with the good old basic performance from Ford.
- TV
Maximum Risk (USA, 1996) – 5/10
Moderately entertaining basic Van Damme flick. Includes a sauna fight (nobody’s towel slips, despite the roundhouse kicks). Female species Natasha Henstridge co-stars.
- TV
Suna no onna (Woman in the Dunes) (1964) 7.5/10
Very good film, loved the ending, which was random and almost funny. But if your trapped in a shithole like that for so long your bound to go insane.
Battle Royale 8/10
