2009 - Track Your Films

Kibakichi - 3/10 Is it strange that I thought this film actually had some pretty good moments?

Dark Knight-9/10

I think its should have been titled The Joker though. Heath Ledger is too damn good.

Let The Right One In-8/10

Visually beautiful…just could have been bit scarier though.

Death Proof-7/10

Awesome car crash…one of the best on screen, and an even better car chase.

Once Upon A Time In Mexico-7/10

Loved the style.

Taken-6/10

Lacking depth…but cool action.

Slumdog Millionaire-8/10

Loved the starkness of it.

Rewatched:

The Shawshank Redemption-10/10

Awesome,awesome dialogue.

Risky Business - 7/10

kinda reminded me of True Romance

Cool, I’ve only just discovered this thread. So Far this year -

Stuart Little (Rob Minkoff 99) - I saw it for the first time and loved it!

Die Screaming Marianne (71)+

The Flesh And Blood Show (72) - Both directed by Pete Walker and both a bit dull. Susan George is a very good reason to see Marianne though.

Manhattan Baby (82) +

White Fang (73) - Lucio Fulci’s Manhattan Baby was a bit dull but picked up towards the end, nowhere near as entertaining as his earlier horror films. His version of Jack London’s White Fang was much better. Stars Franco Nero.

Santa Claus Conqers The Martians (Nicholas Webster 64) - Good trashy fun. Watched this with all my chocolate leftover from Christmas.

Inglorious Bastards (Enzo Castellari 78) +

Churchills Leopards (Maurizio Pradeaux 70) - Macaroni combat double bill! Bo Svenson was awseome in I.B but overall I prefered Churchills Leopards with Klaus Kinski. Both recommended.

The Golden Compass (Chris Weitz 07) - Pants. I was really lookin forward to this but it just did’nt gel.

Tourist Trap (David Schmoeller 79) - If you like slasher’s then this is definately recommended.

The Capture Of Bigfoot (Bill Rebane 79) - Bill Rebane trash but I kinda like Bill Rebane trash. The baby bigfoot was so cute!

The Naughty Stewardesses (Al Adamson 75) - Al Adamson film which was totally dull, picked up a little toward the end though.

Black Sheep (Jonathon King 06) - The New Zealand horror. Not funny or entertaining. For me that is.

The Hellbenders (Sergio Corbucci 67) - Decent spaghetti western with a really good performance from Joseph Cotton and a really cool Ennio Morricone score. Recommended.

Man Of The East (E.B Clucher aka Enzo Barboni 72) - I just love Terence Hill. Good ending. Recommended.

Night Train To Terror (85) - If you like trashy films then you gotta watch this!

How To Save A Marraige And Ruin Your Life (Fielder Cook 68) - Dean Martin, Stella Stevens and Eli Wallach are excellent in this comedy. Definately check this out!

Cannibal Women In The Avocado Jungle Of Death - Who cares!

Massacre Mafia Style (Duke Mitchell 78) - Brilliant 70’s gangster B movie with a great performance from Duke Mitchell. Recommended.

La Spettro (Riccardo Freda 63) - Barbara Steele stars in this okay period horror. Worth a Look.

Django Shoots First (Alberto De Martino 66) - Enjoyable spaghetti. Really funny ending with George Eastman. Recommended.

Dont’t Wait Django…Shoot! (Edoardo Mulargia 67) - Dull as fuck spaghetti.

Devil Doll (Lindsay Shonteff 64) - Really good ventriloquist horror with an excellent performance from Bryant Haliday. Recommended.

Images (Robert Altman 72) +

Happy Birthday Wanda June (Mark Robson 71) - Susannah York double bill! Both recommended. Images is creepy and compelling and HBWJ is a funny, dark and entertaining adaptation of Kurt Vonneguts novel. Rod Steiger is brilliant.

From Beyond The Grave (Kevin Connor 73) - Fun Amicus anthology. Peter Cushing is a legend.

Assault Of The Killer Bimbo’s (Anita Rosenberg 88) - Better than the title suggests, this is a pretty good road movie. Dated and a bit silly but worth a look and yes it is very similiar to Thelma And Louise.

Retreat Hell (Joseph H Lewis 52) - One of my faves I’ve seen this year. Russ Tamblyn is excellent in this. Recommended.

Girl Slaves Of Morgana Le Fey (Bruno Gantillon 71) - Another one of my faves so far this year. An adult fairytale like Harry Kumels Daughters Of Darkness.

There’s gotta be loads more I’ve forgotten about but thats me pretty much up to date.

Only “plus” and “minus” scores?

since the begining of the week i’ve watched:

Pulp Fiction (rewatch)

Fletch - OMG, what have they done the books?

Sunset - late blake edwards, suprisingly ok.

The most terrible time in my life (rewatch)

Halloween (rewatch)

Mister Majestyk (rewatch)

Frozen River - great!

The laughing Policeman (rewatch) - one of my favorite Walter matthau, hence one of my favorite film!

Joe Caligula

Kiss me deadly (rewatch) - masterpiece!

Mr Warmth, the Don Rickles project - documentary by John Landis, super funny

Slasher - other documentary by John Landis, not as greath, but still good

California Suite - the Elaine May/Walter Matthau story is good, the rest is boring. not a Neil Simon fan.

The Curious case of Benjamin Button - loved it. great melodrama.

Commando Squad - terrible and super cheap war film from the 60s

Call me Bruce

Night of the big Heat (rewatch) - one of the best Terrence Fisher film

Death to Smoochy - not funny and boring

Big Wednesday (rewatch) - fantastic

Red Heat - Hong Kong action from the 80s, great fights, lousy story…

Autobiography of a princess

Stalag 17 - not as good as other Billy Wilder films, but still great

The Shop around the corner (rewatch) - Ernst Lubitsch’s masterpiece, hence one of the best film ever!

Holy crap, 23 films in 6 days? That’s like more than 3 films a day :o

Hum yeah, tonyanthony, what are you doing in your life ? Still a student, unis on strike ? Left your job ? Nah, just kidding. Sounds like a festival marathon. I used to watch 4 to 5 movies in a row when I was in Cannes. Was funny and a performance in the same time.

What are you trying to say, that you were in some sort of abnormal state? Do you drink, lili??

I envy you all. My dvd’s/Vhs’s are getting dusty due to lack of use. I’ve got no time to sit down and watch anything. Though I rewatched Milk last night, did cost me a full nights sleep but was worth it.

I don’t know how many films I watch in a week. I do know that I re-watch a LOT of stuff, because I’m still recovering from the holidays, and haven’t bought many new DVDs.

I do rent a lot. Gotta help keep the independent movie store in business.

I rented Nick and Nora’s Infinite Playlist last… I liked it. I thought it was done as well as it should have been done. Just fucked up enough to seem real. 7/10

Yeah, I’m in a similar position. I hardly watch any films (1-2 in a month if it’s a good month!). At first it was because I too didn’t have time, and the time I did have I’d use to do other things. But recently I’ve got plenty of time and still don’t watch them. I have like 100 DVDs and haven’t watched like 30 of them since I bought them :-</E>

However, I am going to make a promise to myself to start watching more films. I thought my shelf collapsing (thus throwing my DVD’s, books, magazines etc. all over the place and even damaging some of them :’() would serve as a wake up call, but it hasn’t, tut. I’m annoyed at myself.

nooo… i rewatch a lot of films while i’m working - like scorsese ahahah - and i don’t need much sleep, so i can work and have a life (well, sort of…) and watch 3 or 4 films a day. easy 8)

Nope, I never do, at least no alcohol, let’s be clear. But when yo’ure in a festival, you HAVE to force yourself to watch all the movies. On the first day, it’s hard, you have to get used to that rythm and marathon life. But then on the second and third day, you’re all into it. And I could watch 4 or 5 movies, eat sandwich or cakes in the queue waiting for the next movie, or after the last movie, go to parties with my friends, go to sleep around 3am and wake up before 7am to start the queue at 7am for the 8am movie. Nice. And the only way to know if the movie is interesting enough, is to trust your body : you’ll fall asleep ! But your body can stay awake if it’s worthy. When I was in Cannes, I fell asleep for a very boring docu on a famous French lawyer and … for Ocean’s Thirteen. But I saw Death Proof at 10pm screening after 4 other movies and never fell asleep. And I waited for 3 hours in a queue to see Scorsese’s masterclass, under the hot sun, and never fell asleep or faint. ;D

terror’s advocate? i thought it was great!

That same movie. I didn’t like it. Boring. Very bad editing. Filmed like in video. Nothing to keep my eyes opened at that time. Maybe it’s not that bad. But I don’t want to watch it again.

Hidden - 8/10

Exit Wounds - 8/10

Terminator 2: Judgment Day Blu-Ray - 9/10

Saints And Soldiers Blu-Ray - 8/10

Commando Blu-Ray - 8.5/10

Million Dollar Baby Blu-Ray - 8/10

Black Hawk Down Blu-Ray - 8/10

Casino Royale Blu-ray - 8/10
