YOUR KILL BILL Volume 1 REVIEWs

I finally got to see the movie after a week of waiting while everyone else seemed to be able to talk about it.

I saw the movie with 3 friends, 1 of which was a girl and I was watching her to gauge what she was thinking about what she was seeing. After all, this is all about empowerment of women, revenge and mass destruction - all by a women. By the time the film ended, the reaction was what I’d hoped: she loved it. Loved seeing Uma kick ass, loved Gogo swing her spike ball and chain and even admitted to having lesbian thoughts about Uma which I fully endorse.

The other 2 I saw the movie with were all guys and none of them are particularly big Tarantino fans and none of them frequent this website however I knew they would like it just like I knew they would dig women beating the crap out of each other, women getting all angry, women getting all… sexy. They agreed on this and they both admitted to having sexual thoughts about Uma as well.

So this leaves me. What did I think about it? IT FUCKING KILLED ME. This fucking movie is a cinematic work of creative genius. Right on down to the production values, the music choices, the fight choreography, the cinematography and any other “graphy” you can think of. I left the theatre in hindsight with a feeling of “oh my god, Quentin has really outdone himself here”.

Now I don’t really compare this film to anything he’s done before. I can’t. The reason? because it’s unlike anything he has done before so what’s the point. As well publicised this is a “movie movie” and I haven’t seen a movie movie like this at the cinema ever. A piece that grabbed my attention from beginning to end and really held me there. The story is very straight forward but it doesn’t have to be anything else. What we have works perfectly for what we see. Why do we need 5 minutes of heavy dialogue with Uma telling her foes how she is going to kill them. No, she jumps right in there and beats the shit out of it.

One of the first thing that struck me about the tone of movie was the humour. Admittedly, having someone’s head sliced and diced with the blood gushing outwards for 30 seconds can’t be taken entirely seriously but I’d say this is Quentins funniest movie so far. This is in evidence during the sushi bar scene and it’s evident in the fights. Do I think people got the humour over here in the UK? Well… in the theatre I was in I’d say a vast majority did.

So having shit out all this praise on a movie I was waiting to see for too long there must surely have been things I would have liked to see but didn’t, things that didn’t please me like I thought they would…things that got me thinking of that first draft of the script we have all read.

As much as I liked the movie, it is just that- it’s one movie. The script was written that way and no matter what Quentin says about it, it was always intended that way right up until virtually the last minute when Harvey ‘ol fatso’ Weinstein put forth the proposition of 2 movies.

Having seen the movie - really wish this was just ‘A’ movie and not just ‘A’ one half a movie. Now, the old script had certain things about it that I really liked that were not in the movie…Yuki’s revenge we all know about but I wanted to see that in there… real bad. Sorry to anyone offended here but I reeeally wanted to see that. IMO it’s one of the best things in the script.

House of blue leaves fight… we can all agree that it was nothing short of spectacular however I felt (as I believe many in the audience felt) this motherfucker needed some colour in it. The B/W although not detracting from the experience made me yearn for some red blooded gore. Why give us a taste when people can have the whole steak dinner so to speak. Again, I loved it but I wanted colour…commence flames here.

All in all then a wonderful experience and I can’t wait for Vol 2 even though I could have watched vol 2 fuckin now as I’m sure 90% of you here would attest. Anyway, I am going to see it again next week and if I catch ANYONE not going to see this and just download it I will personally find you and burn your computer. Peace.
