i loved Johnny’s Depp character but its the El Mariachi series. not the agent sands series. it needed more mariachi!

my fav would probably have to be Desperado though i love them all. awesome QT joke and i love that shoot out right after.  but they are all cool.

and to hushjr, whats so great about the subtitles not bugging you. you should watch more foreign films[/quote]

I just thought it would have bugged me. :-/

if you watch the featurettes on the dvd of OUATIM you’ll see that RR wanted it to have a Good, Bad, Ugly feel where the main character was only 1 of few main characters so i think it’s just right the way it is. Mariachi isn’t in all of the movie but i think his story fits with the others great.

That’s why they should have had the 3-way duel at the end.

am i the only one that feels that this is in the wrong sectoin?

Hell yeah a 3-way duel would have kicked ass! And to make this on topic…A 3-way duel at the end of OUATIM would have made it my favorite of the trilogy.

No, Mexico’s action scenes are ten times more kickass.

Here’s my Mariachi-Ranking:

  1. El Mariachi
  2. Once Upon a Time in Mexico
  3. Desperado

El Mariachi has great action sequences, identificable characters and real emotions. Once Upon a Time in Mexico was a surreal trip through Mexico in a comic style with some of the greatest action scenes I’ve ever seen in my life and a fuckin cool Johnny Depp. And then comes Desperado. Its great too, but the other two are simply better than this. Tarantino’s role is very funny, Salma Hayek is the sexiest woman alive and the action is great, but I like OUATIM and El Mariachi more.

Hey, you all must read the book “Rebell without a crew” from R. Rodriguez. Its a great documentary of El Mariachi producing, with some pics of R.R. and Tarantino and Harvey Keitel and it has the whole Mariachi script.

Mariachi had bare boned action scenes, it’s the last two films that had that added style of action but lacked realism.

Desperado
