#2304

There’s been some pretty horrible “Best of Decade” lists going around lately.

Right on, man. I was saddened when The Strokes broke apart but Julian still rocks the house with his music.

Check out the Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs - you’ll love 'em.

Hell yea I was also thinking what a stupid list. And I cant believe Lady Gaga is on the list.

The person who made that list deserves to be shot.

It’s nothing special really

#2315

what the fuck does that even mean?

just goes to show having maybe 100 albums and diversity doesn’t get you the credit you deserve. as great as the beatles are, i wish their fucking shadow would just go away.

#2316

Yeah I guess having 100 doesn’t prevent you from having shit music tastes. Even You Really Got Me or Sunny Afternoon by The Kinks are better. I have no idea why you brought up The Beatles though.

#2317

your first sentence: what exactly were you trying to insult me with there? my 100 what? their 100 what?

second part: waterloo sunset has some of the best harmonies i’ve ever heard. you really got me isn’t a pop song. its more akin to garage rock. and van halen. why bring up their more popular songs? popular tastes have proven again and again why they have no business being referred to when it comes to quality.

thirdly: the beatles were one of the many bands who overshadowed the kinks even though the kinks have outnumbered them in productivity and practically invented, owned and operated the whole “Concept” album thing. that was a general statement, anyway, it wasn’t really directed at you.

#2318

The first point was my mistake, I though you were bringing up that YOU own 100 CD of all kinds and that it made you the best judge to what is a great pop song and what is not. It really sounded ridiculous of you because 100 albums is nothing really, so I should have known better :o

Second, I’m not really good with putting music in particular genres. For me, the 2 songs I mentioned are as pop as Waterloo Sunset, but whatever. And I precisely mentioned those 2 songs because they are their most popular ones, and are better, IMO. And I still stand by that statement, especially because I also believe that, in general, the most popular songs are not the best.

Third point, how could I not think it wasn’t directed at me?

#2319

why do you think i would bother to say “pop” song if my intentions were to open up cross-genre debate? it was hyperbolic gushing for a really great song with really awesome fucking harmonies.

the fact that the first thing you had to do was say i had shit taste proves how weak your arguement was in the first place. i was expecting you to say more or less “this song is not that great because the harmonies are actually off and they harmonized better on things like Lola” something along the lines of the song’s actual credibility, not just personal attacks but whatever, frenchman! i should’ve expected less!

i didn’t ask you to hold the song up to the entirety of music, squint and tell me how many karats it was. just enjoy the fucking tune, man.
