Excellent observation, maybe Bill made the connection. But during the second volume there were hints and suggestions that Bill and Bud were estranged siblings. Bill just cared enough to give Bud fair warning and then it seemed like they pretty much burned the bridge. Bud is one of favorite characters and sadly he is forgotten. Well considering he became basically alcholic bum and bouncer some time after the Two Pines Massacre. Maybe he was overcome with guilt.
