some tips from my side to make sure you’re relatively safe against viruses:
#1 - keep your operating system up to date (auto-update on windows) …or switch to Linux
#2 - don’t use Internet Explorer. I recommend Firefox or Opera
#3 - ALWAYS use an up to date VIRUS shield with live background checking and a FIREWALL under windows. Anything else is suicide. Tests have shown that a windows computer is infected by malicious software only seconds after connecting to the internet without these safety precautions
#4 - NEVER open emails you’re not sure where they from and what they are. Especially those with attachments. Make sure you have an email provider that checks your emails for viruses for you (like Gmail, GMX etc…)
#5 - THINK. Don’t surf to dubious websites, don’t open spam mails,…
#6 - Set your instant messaging software (AIM, ICQ, Skype, Windows Live, Yahoo…) to only accept messages from your friends. And never get in touch with spammers and trolls, and NEVER click on links these bots/people send you
#7 - Keep your webbrowser up to date, no matter which ones. Firefox has auto update, Opera will also tell you when a new one is out. Internet Explorer (for whatever idiotic reason it is you might use it) has just published version 8.
