QT doesn’t copy of lesser known films and try to pass them on as his own. He basically gets all his favourite parts from his favourite films and tries to re-create them because, often he makes a film that he wants to see. QT is film-geek. He has seen millions of films and knows a lot about them. He is just going with his desires and putting his favourite parts from other films in his own, he is referencing them. I would do the same thing, were I to make a movie. In fact, the majority of things i do eg, write a story, I take my favourite things from other things and add them to my story because it has influenced me. QT isn’t trying to make out that everything he did is original! Every QT fan should know that he takes pieces from other films. I admire him for that, because ultimately he creates a better film. An interesting quote from Quentin - “Great artists don’t borrow or pay homeages, they steal!”. QT is intelligent enough to know what makes a good movie, thus the four great ones he has created. One thing you can’t doubt about originality is his dialogue. He doesn’t steal them from anywhere, and IMO I think he writes the best dialogue.
Anyway, back to the nifty shit, I found it quite funny when Budd says “Larry, there ain’t nobody out there!” and Larry repeats what he says in a kind of mumbling tone - “There ain’t nobody out there… Larry… What’s your point? That you’re not needed here?”
