I have only read bits of it - I must read it all before going to see it.

I like James Ellroys books in general, but i think this is my fav one. You should read it!
Yeah - Apocalypse Now. Honestly, what’s so good about it? I even fast forwarded it in the end which I rarely do with movies
Dude you serious? AN has to be one of the greatest movies ever made.
Sofia is ok as a director, but her films don’t really appeal to me personally.

I know this is going to sound incredibly sexist, but I have always seen Sofia’s films as more feminine films. But I suppose this doesn’t count seeing as QT’s films are always considered to be more masculine movies yet here I am chatting on his fan forums.

Well, we all have different taste, which is nice. Her films are also from womens point of view, so maybe thats why they dont appeal to you that much.

I don’t like the story, the twists, the violence (which is boring there) the now-let’s-get-slow-because-this-is-such-a-meaningful-moment attitude, the French part, the whores in the helicopter, the ending, the almost tangible feeling of Coppola’s ego put in every scene of the film. Seriously the less than 5 minute war scenes in Deer Hunter beat the whole AN in a mash.

Yeah definetely. You and Luxie’s got a point there.

Most of the things you don’t like are only present in the Redux version, so they don’t really count. And most good war movies aren’t about the story per se, they’re more about the exploration of the human soul. I mean really, what’s so special about the story in other war movies? Full Metal Jacket…Some guys go to train camp and find themselves in a battlefield. Deer Hunter…some guy goes wacko after playing russian roulette. But they’re still awesome movies because they’ve all got brilliant characterisation. And I love Deer Hunter, but no scene in that film comes even close to the helicopter attack scene in AN.
I love the story in FMJ, the film is interesting, relaxing and enjoyable, it’s unique in style, one of my favourites. That’s exactly what I love - some guys in a training camp later finding themselves in a battlefield. Jarhead was trying to be as close to FMJ as posssible, whatever, I love them both. I am actually never trying to get a point or something, I need atmosphere and excitement and those I could find in Deer Hunter and FMJ and all the other war films I’ve seen except for AN. Sometimes you just don’t care how technically good a film is or who has made it, if you don’t like it, you just don’t like it.
That’s why there are so many war films, choose your favourite and leave the others alone, if I don’t like AN, I am not going to try.

I agree, I mean because she’s a woman, and there’s this femal point of view, we can feel closer to her movies…

I think it’s one the greatest book ever. I made a thread on the movie, but noone came on it. I post alone and alone some news concerning the movie, and what I think of the book :-</E> Maybe check the topic, Luxie if you wanna talk a little of it. Can’t wait to see the movie. It’s released this month too in France…
Whoa, do you have the Trainspotting accent? It rules, god I wish I could talk like that. Right now I’m really looking forward to stdying in Scotland, I really hope I will.
No, I kinda do but it is not as strong as the Trainspotting accent it’s a bit softer and more hints of the West Coast in it.
I havent listened to all of the songs yet, but it looks promising, i will get back when i have lsitened to the songs properly. Im gonna check that topic out for sure!
Cool !
I haven’t listened to all the songs either. But I talk about it with my dad, because he knows himself very well in music. So he told what he thinks about it and told me to wait the movie to see how they fit or not in the scenes…

Thats a good idea. I am looking forward to hear the music with the images. I really dont know how it will turn out, but i think Sofia has made something brilliant here.
Oh yeah I trust her ! I think it will be a strange but cool mix with the images…
How can you gather so much information, listen to the songs, watch the trailers before seeing the film? It takes away half of it.
