I also liked Return of the Street Fighter more although all the Streetfighter movies are AWESOME! I thought the fights were better in Return, especially the last 15 minutes.
And, I watched Coffy for the first time today. I must say it sure was a kick ass movie. very FUN.
I’ve started my Blaxploitation History Month early.
So far:
Truck Turner - Loved it.
Foxy Brown - Dug it.
Black Mama, White Mama - Mildly dissapointed.
The Mack - easily the best so far. The first I’ve enjoyed on a serious level.
Shaft - Not what I was hoping for.
Coming up tonight - Coffy.
Glad you enjoyed most of them. Truck Turner is like the Hard Boiled of blaxpoitations! And I agree that the first 2 Shaft movies aren’t quite what they’re made out to be. Shaft in Africa is actually my favorite of the trilogy. Much more loose and fun.
I hate looking for dvds at Walmart. They only sell dvds in full screen. Except for the dvds that are only available in widescreen. Best Buy is a good place to buy dvds. Suncoast is cool too. It’s a little more expensive but they have a lot of hard to find dvds.

Check out the dragon princess Sue Shiomi and Sonny Chiba kick ass in this super grindhouse flick. The music is the sound of the true 70s with a bit of a blaxploitation influence. It’s a great movie! Also, see The world of drunken master and Shaolin Kungfu
Dragon Princess is really cool (i’m in love with Etsuko Shiomi)…but the version i saw was so shitty that i couldn’t tell what was going half the fuckin time…what set did you get it off of, beatrix? how was the quality?
It came in some special edition box with 2 other chiba films. It was called something like Martial Arts Extreme 3. The quality was so crappy, the camera was really out of focus and to make it even better, it was dubbed! Either way, it’s a cool movie
This is really just a spectacular kung fu film. It has Yuen Biao at his absolute best and Sammo Hung costars. Lau Kar Wing (Lau Kar Leung’s brother) is in it and he does some kick ass hung gar kung fu and snake, the guy is nothing but baddass. Let’s not forget Yuen Biao as you see his skills increase as the movie goes on, he does some incredible acrobatics. For instance he does 9 back handsprings in place and backflips over and over while jump roping. He even does a bit of drunken style. Both he and Sammo do monkey and this made-up style called garbage boxing. There’s another guy who’s name I forgot that does this weird rolling-fist technique. This movie is a classic and should not be missed. It’s on my top 5 of greatest kung fu films ever, and I’ve seen an ass of kung fu films! Seriously, this film demands a viewing from every kung fu film fan. The finale is simply breathtaking, you’ll be like “holy shit!” the whole time. The dvd I got is from tai seng video, it’s good copy but the subtitles come and go. Just think of what you’re seeing as an opera, you can’t understand it but you know what’s going on.
Here’s my review for THRILLER - A CRUEL PICTURE (aka THEY CALL HER ONE EYE & HOOKER’S REVENGE) that I posted on Amazon.comhere. A few reviewers gave the movie one star on that site. But I disagree with their assessment. They don’t seem to be connoisseurs of exploitation cinema and were strictly buying the movie over Tarantino’s accolades for the film. While his remarks made me want to seek the film out, I was aware of the movie long before he mentioned it for KILL BILL. In anycase, here’s what I thought of the movie, which is also partly in reaction to the negative comments on the Amazon.com site:
THRILLER - A CRUEL PICTURE might not live up to the Tarantino hype; it’s not the roughest or the most extreme revenge flick I’ve ever seen. Yet, I really dug the movie. It didn’t need the hardcore penetration close-up shots (obviously using a body double). Yet, I can live with it. The movie overall is up there with other B-movie/Revenge flicks like LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT and I SPIT ON YOUR GRAVE to name a few. And I thought the filmmakers did a good job with the limited budget they had. I’ve seen much worse filmmaking within the exploitation realm and THRILLER is far more accomplished than other “Z grade” movies that I like (i.e. ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST or I DRINK YOUR BLOOD). And I thought the acting was good as well in its original Swedish language with English subtitles. Granted, I don’t speak any Scandanavian languages, so I can’t really gauge how well (or bad) some of the performances truly are. However, the English dubbing is horrendous, as almost every other English dubbed movie would be. Like most 70’s films (and foreign film in general), the pacing takes it’s time telling the story. So, if you’re accustomed to MTV-style of fast-paced editing, then this movie will certainly disappoint you. For me, this was one cool revenge flick.
i finally saw Thriller: A Cruel Picture and i thought it was downright bad. the original story may have been ok but the writing and directing were downright horrible. mix that with random porn shots (including a cum shot which i didn’t expect) just made this movie bad. damn bad. glad i paid $30 for it. :-</E>

Yeah but I actually liked it. It reminded me of a better straw dogs. I do have to agree that even though the sex was exploitative it just got to hardcore. It was pretty good for a movie staring a porn star.
