The greatest director of all time?

Is this the SE? Cause that looks damn cool. Think I’m gonna for eBay.

I realize that this is getting off-topic, so I’m gonna try to continue the thread.

On the note of directors I actually don’t like, but not hate, is Michael Mann. I just don’t like the way he directs his films. The Insider was all handheld, and he should have used more music. Then again, once he plays a song, it manages to get even worse. I like Heat, but it seems to me that Mann watched a thriller or action movie and said “It’s very thrilling, and very exciting, but lacks good and deep characters. It entertained me, but when I’ll make a film like this I’ll make deep characters instead! And forget all about the thrills.”

Good characters and acting alone doesn’t make a good film. I’m not saying that Heat should had more action. I’m just saying it could use more focus. The shoot-out in the middle is soooo good, and it proves that Mann really can do action as well as anybody else, so why little of it in the rest of the movie?

I know what you mean.

For instance, I enjoyed 'The Last of the Mohican’s" as a child, but now, it just wasn’t well done enough. It was ok, it had some great scenes, but altogether it just wasn’t as satisfying or breath taking as it should have been.

Amazing soundtrack though!!
