The greatest director of all time?

Okay, I bought Se7en on eBay and I’m most likely gonna watch Fight Club tonight. Can’t believe it has taken me so long.

On another note, what is everybody’s favorite films as far as direction alone goes? Don’t have to be the best, just some films where the director is a star in himself. Mine:

Once Upon A Time In America (Sergio Leone):

My favorite Leone-film and to me the most interesting in directing. He manages to do so much with so little, proving you don’t need grand armies and wast landscapes to paint a great picture. Honorable mention to Once Upon A Time In The West too.

Goodfellas (Martin Scorsese):

I should probably say Casino too, since it’s mostly the same style. The pacing is so great in this film. Scorsese knows exactly when to use faster editing and when to use longer takes.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 (Quentin Tarantino):

The music, the camera, everything here is so great. I prefer this to Vol. 2, both as a film and as direction. I like how QT found so fitting music to the film. That little break in Wound That Heals when Hattori Hanzo throws the baseball was probably really hard to time right, especially as the song maybe hadn’t been found yet when filming the scene.
