The Black Dahlia

I really wonder how will be this movie. I discovered Ellroy with LA Confidential (first, the movie, then the book).

I read The Black Dahlia in last year and I love this book for all: story, characters, atmospheer of the old-LA,…

I hope De Palma will be able to create this special environment.

The brandnew poster of The Black Dahlia :

Cant wait for this, DePalma is my favorite director.

DePalma is one of my favorite directors! and can’t fucking wait to see this flick!

That poster owns. So will this movie.

I’m not one to care about Oscars but I really hope Brian DePalma gets some recognition this year. He deserves some props because the guys one of our finest auteurs.

BTW, James Ellroy LOVES The Black Dahlia. He thinks its a masterpiece.

He sure does ! And it’s a masterpiece, my fav book ever, and one of my fav writter ever ! Everyone should read it before watching the movie !

Less than a month away! September 15th I’ll drive as far as I fucking have to to see this movie. And then in October Running with Scissors comes out, two of my favorite books (different as they are) becoming movies at the same time=geekgasm to the nth degree.

Some really nice photos of Il Maestro, Scarlett (HOT), James Ellroy, Mia Kirshner and Josh Hartnett from the Black Dahlia premiere in Venice… Enjoy!

De Palma a la Mod

Schweet. I can’t wait to see this.

An early review of the film (Spoilers):

http://www.emanuellevy.com/article.php?articleID=3217

I haven’t read the book. But I have seen tons of those specials about her murder on A&E etc. So I am familiar with the case. Always wanted someone to make a movie out of the case. I knew there were books about the event, everyone had their own theory. Not sure whose was the best. From the sound of things, this guy has done his homework and come up with the best one.

It’s a fascinating case from a criminal aspect.

I have read a lot about this one. I think that it will be a half-ass movie, but the subject is killer. I saw an episode of Hunter (it was popular when I was a kid - a detective show starring Fred Dryer - a Los Angeles Ram’s football player who had a short-lived acting career) about the Black Dahlia. It scared the shit out of me when I was little - I’ll probably see the film for nostalgic reasons. “Nostalgia isn’t what it used to be!” HaHa.

I dont know about “half ass”. Great book, great director, great cast. I never knew anything about The Black Dahlia until I heard about this film. I’m a DePalma fan first, thats why I’m looking forward to it the most. Everything else is secondary for me.

I say “half-ass” because most true stories-turned movies are exactly that. Things that never happened can never be disputed or fucked up, but true stories are full of errors and falsehoods. It’s the nature of the true story beast. No doubt that DePalma will do a great job, but the great part about Scarface was that it could of happened because it never happened. The bad part about The Untouchables was that there were numerous historical errors - Frank Nitti being killed was the first to come to mind - Frank Nitti actually ran Capone’s business for several years after Capone was put in jail. I’m just being practical - true stories never work in Hollywood.

Wow. that movie was one hell of a ride.

it dragged a bit in the beginning and the middle, but the movie was just awesome. the look was great, the dePalma typical slo-mo stuff was great, the flashbacks were superb, some of the violence was fucking intense! i loved the shadow work, the shootings and the slapstick like scenes with that old woman and the homage to silent movies / old bw nudie flicks.

such a great movie. everybody should see it, its really a wild ride
