yea i noticed this too it cuts away so fast too. was it supposed to be like ths 70s films that had 2 differant names like switchblades sisters was originally released as the jesabels.
I could not read all the print under “Bolt”. I wonder does it say “and Lightfoot” lol
Anyone know the story behind this name change? Im sure there is something to it.
When I watched Grindhouse all I noticed was that there was a different original title but it cut away so fast I didn’t see what it was. Later I read somewhere on the internet that it was Thunderbolt…
I caught it the second time, and hi everyone I’m back =]
Where’ve you bin ?
yea i dident notice it until i seen it the second time i watched it too on e bootleg.
I’ve been shooting birds at the airport
any info on this thunderbolt?

Maybe QT wanted to create different titles, like Jjp said. Thunderbolt, now that’s a cheesy title!
i think that it may actually sound more grindhouseish than death proof.
I think he was doing a homage to the movies in the 70’s/80’s where they always had two different titles. For example take a look at Thriller and They call here one eye.

yea thats what im thinking too.
Its weird how Death Proof is shown, like its on cardboard held up in front of the camera. Maybe it will be called Thunder Bolt when its re-released or when the DVD comes out. lol
I was already thinking about fucking the video-store people by asking for Thunderbolt on the day they released Death Proof…

that’s a pretty cool idea!
I believe it was a little joke like the old klingon proverb before Kill Bill Vol. 1. Quentin always talked about how a lot of Grindhouse films would have a different name in America then it had overseas. Also, he always talks about how a film with missing reels would have a different tone and almost be a different film. In an interview, he said that American film distributors would hack a lot of the mood scenes out. I like to believe that Thunder Bolt is the version playing at Cannes. And since it is a Grindhouse film the foreign title was left in by mistake, but a funny mistake.
Laydback is on the right track with his idea. I think QT owns alot of old exploitation films that have titles that hes changed himself. Like he’ll have a print with two titles and he’ll put the title he likes best into the film print by splicing it in. So Thunder Bolt was the original title, but he put in a black alternate title card with Death Proof cuz he likes that title more. If ya know what Im saying.
