Tarantino Unveils 'Inglorious Bastards' To 4 Major Hollywood Studios

Am I the only one (here) who thought Death Proof was the biggest load of trash ever? Will anyone admit that here? It wasn’t that much of a critical success, many of the reviews don’t praise it too much. Even over here in the UK, long time fans, reviews said he’d lost it. It has nothing to do with breaking the bank.

Im not saying Death Proof was terrible or unwatchable. I liked it, but it doesnt stand up to something like Kill Bill or QTs earlier films.

I like the choice of Brad Pitt, but at the same time i’m not too crazy about it. Either way this movie is gonna be one hell of a ride.

I liked Death Proof, but yeah it wasnt his best. It wasn’t his worst either. You’ve got to agree it had one of best car crashes in film history though.

I love exploitation films as you know, but I didnt feel like Grindhouse really packed the punch it should have. Kill Bill is QTs real grindhouse masterpiece.

since when does a movie that is exploitation on purpose have to be a masterpiece? to all the death proof bashers out there: look me dead in the eye and tell me it wasn’t loads of fun! and isn’t that the whole point? has anyone done a cool car chase scene recently that was THIS cool, without “sticking his dick into a nintendo”?

It has some cool moments, but overall its not a great film to me. Also we’re talking about QT, not someone who we dont expect alot from. Maybe my expectation level is too high for him or something. Im not saying Death Proof had to be a masterpiece to be good, but I wish I liked it more I guess.

Lets forget that stuff and talk about Bastards. We’re going off track here.

I’ll look you dead in the eye and tell you I was never more bored with this self indulgent trash. I know what the whole point of the movie; an homage to exploitation flicks. There was absolutley no substance - I couldn’t believe I was watching this movie by the same man who gave me Reservoir Dogs. Girls trying to talk like QT and Sam Jackson, eugh! Make a proper movie - I still remember Jonathon Ross telling him that last time he was over, haha. Cool car chases and set pieces don’t do it for me. It may for some, but don’t be shocked when a long term fan expected more from an Academy Award winning screenwriter!

I wouldnt call it trash. It wasnt that bad. It just wasnt on the same level of his earlier stuff.

Yeash, it definitely wasn’t that. But as you said, it is QT we’re talking about.

Anywho, back to Bastards. Filming to begin in Europe in October for a Cannes '09 release? Hopefully a fun-filled schedule awaits us…

I wonder who else hes going to cast. I thought maybe a mix of old QT film regulars and some new faces too.

Old regulars I’d like to see - Roth, Madsen, Keitel. Gotta prepare for some rare choices also.

I wonder who’ll play Bonnie the Nurse?

Im pretty sure he will be cast Julie Dreyfus in this as a French girl.

I’ll make a set visit and count the "hi sally"s

Woah woah, why the sudden hating on Death Proof? It is obvious that he wasn’t trying to top his previous films, but rather go under them yet still produce a great film. It’s similar to what he did with Jackie Brown. He tried to go under Pulp Fiction and create something different for a different audience. Then came his epic masterpiece Kill Bill. After that, he thought he’d do something smaller which is where Death Proof comes in. It appeals to a different audience, and it’s very cleverly done how it didn’t have the pizass that Kill Bill had, yet there is an underlying quality there. Of course, we see a pattern here emerging all pointing towards IB being his latest masterpiece.

Personally, after hearing how shit Death Proof was, I was very scepticle walking into the film. There was a lot of hate for it (poor, boring dialogue, not enough action, slow paced, etc). After I watched it, I actually had a tear in my eye that I had the nerve to doubt QT. I thought Death Proof was fucking brilliant, yet at the same time I knew that it wasn’t as good as his previous 4 films. It really did seperate the fans. All the gripes people had didn’t apply to me at all. I LOVED the dialogue, LOVED the slow pace, LOVED everything apart from the Sheriff McGraw and Son Number 1 scene. It was the equivalent of the doctor explaining what happened to Norman Bates in Psycho scene and equivalent to the court scene in Vertigo. I hate when directors have a device to tell the viewers what they just saw, I like it when we have to figure it out ourselves.

Death Proof was experimental. He discarded or changed around a lot of his trademark aspects. It seemed as though it was QT not trying to be QT. Yet perhaps it is the most pure Quentin Tarantino film. It has a cold sort of atmosphere throughout the first half. I felt quite uneasy, especially because I knew some shit was about to go down. Just when you think nothing is going to happen BANG, you’re in the middle of the most powerfully tense scene QT has commited to film. His quality seaped through in quite a few scenes. Take the first car crash scene, for instance. That to me is one of the top 5 greatest QT scenes ever. How about the lapdance scene? That sent shivers down my spine. The car chase induced so many different emotions in me, it was unreal. And the ending? In the same way the opening to Kill Bill can never be topped for me, the same goes for the ending of Death Proof.

In the same way Jackie Brown was a shock to a lot of people’s systems, Death Proof induced a similar reaction. I myself don’t like horror films at all, and if there was one genre I didn’t want him to do, it would have been that. So I wasn’t particularly excited about Death Proof or Grindhouse as shown by my lack of posts on the subject during all the hype. Yet Death Proof remains one of my favourite films. Might watch it tonight actually.

With regards to IB, in addition to the regulars already mentioned, I would like to see Gary Oldman in there. One of the greatest living actors.

Death Proof is his weakest film so far no doubt, I’ve been saying it since day 1. The dialogue is inferior to his other movies, and 90% of Death Proof is dialogue.

Too much talk, not enough shock. Its different and was an interesting experiment, but that doesnt mean its a great film.

Anyways lets stay on topic and focus on Bastards. Theres plenty of Death Proof topics open if we want to continue the discussion there.

It’s incredible how much you have changed your tune.

Im not saying I hate the movie. I like it, but its just not a great QT film to me. Goddamn, can we change the subject? Im not gonna keep repeating myself.

why don’t you watch the hell ride trailer and then post your drooling in the other topic

everybody head to the frontpage please!

haha, Sebby is back and ask everybody to leave this topic to the frontpage, top classe. Back on the topic, I’m kinda interested about the rest of the cast. It’s so exciting to have a new QT flick so soon. It seems like seeing Death Proof at Cannes was like yesterday…
