Tarantino.info top 50?

#1

I seen one on another forum i posted at and thought it was a cool idea

so has anyone ever thought of having a huge poll and finding out what movies tarantino archives users rank as the best 50 films of all time? it could be done where people mention movies that they think are worthy of being on the list, then once we have compiled a huge list have a poll to find which ones have made the cut. then we could add a section to the site where the list is availble for everyone to look at and or comment.

good idea?

Good idea? more like a brillant idea!

Here’s a few of my favorites to get the ball rolling.

The Royal Tenenbaums

Shawshank Redemption

Rolling Thunder

Big Lebowski

Breakfast Club

Heathers

#3

cool!

american history x

american beauty

goodfellas

taxi driver

#4

It’s about the greatest, right? Not favourites. Favourite GREATEST. So if your favourite film is Creeping Terror, you won’t list it

#5

Cool idea! Should everyone just list their top 10?

  1. Goodfellas
  2. The Science of sleep
  3. Otto e mezzo
  4. Le Samouraï
  5. Reservoir Dogs
  6. Fist of Fury (the chinese connection)
  7. Sonatine
  8. From Dusk Till Dawn
  9. The Godfather
  10. Pulp Fiction

And the bonus spot: Creeping Terror

Top 10 sounds good. Let’s not put any QT movies in there, cause all QT movies will always be #1

Why no QT movies? We are a QT community :stuck_out_tongue: So it would be natural…otherwise you should ban the movies that inspired him too…or that are in the same genre or are even a movie in general…

Just spice girls the movie qualifies then

#8

I’ve done this a thousand times, but anyway:

  1. Mulholland Dr.
  2. Once Upon A Time In The West
  3. Dog Day Afternoon
  4. Vertigo
  5. Robocop
  6. Casino
  7. The Thing
  8. The Great Escape
  9. Fight Club
  10. Return Of The Living Dead

Not necessarily my top 10 favs, more like the first 10 that came in my mind

I agree about the first part. QT movies should not be included.

#10

Convince me why…

#11

It makes the list boring and obvious. You know the results already. All tarantino films will make it to the final list if they’re allowed to. What’s the point in asking something when you already know the answer?

#12

I think this list should exclude QTs films.

#13

Without QT

  1. The Deer Hunter
  2. Blue Velvet
  3. Vertigo
  4. Lolita
  5. Psycho
  6. 2001: A Space Odyssey
  7. Mean Streets
  8. Fargo
  9. Le Samourai
  10. Dog Day Afternoon
  11. Dr. Strangelove
  12. Taxi Driver
  13. The Tenant
  14. Night of The Living Dead
  15. Cul De Sac
  16. Once Upon A Time In America
  17. The Apartment
  18. The Great Escape
  19. North By Northwest
  20. Permanent Vacation

I am more than sure it’s 50% wrong, as I don’t remember many. I also had difficulties choosing my fav, it’s usually Reservoir Dogs, but now… I don’t know, I think Deer Hunter qualifies

Its a top 50…I dont think that many will include QT movies anyway…

well let it up to each poster  If you want less QT movies in the top 50…just dont vote for them…

How would it look if they are excluded? :stuck_out_tongue:

#15

Its biased for a QT forum to do a Top 50 and everyone puts in QT movies on the list. We all know we love QTs films, so exclude his stuff and make it about everything else.

#16

Ok… :stuck_out_tongue: I still think its biased anyhoo, because our love for QT will reflect in the choice for other movies…but fuck it :stuck_out_tongue:

Here is my new list…

  1. Goodfellas
  2. The Science of sleep
  3. Otto e mezzo
  4. Le Samouraï
  5. Me and You and Everyone We Know
  6. Amelie
  7. The Godfather
  8. Sonatine
  9. Fist of Fury (the chinese connection)
  10. The Killer

Why don’t we do it like this:

You say your top 10 (or 20 or whatever) films in order. The first film gets a point of 1, the second film a point of 2 and so on. Somebody then makes a tally for each film. So if 1 person has given The Godfather 1 point, another person given it 2 points, and another given it 5 points, the score for that film will be 8. We do that for every film in the list, and at the end you will have films and their total number of points gathered from everybody’s list based on what order they appear. At the end, the film with the lowest number of points wins. The 10 films (or 20 or 50 etc) with the lowest scores are the top 10 (20 or 50 etc) films for the Tarantino Archives Community.

It will be a long process, but then again are we really in a rush? Somebody (or more than one person) needs to be nominated to do all the counting.

What do you all think?

#18

What if someone’s favourite film is, say, Home Alone, and it isn’t in any other list? According to your system it should win, as it only has one point. And if 10 people choose Godfather, it gets 10 points, then somebody lists it as his 50th, it has no chance no more, though it’s obviously the favourite.

#19

top 10 would be:

  1. Taxi Driver
  2. Reservoir Dogs
  3. Jaws
  4. The Good, The Bad & The Ugly
  5. Donnie Darko
  6. Spinal Tap
  7. Star Wars: Empire Strikes Back
  8. True Romance
  9. The 400 Blows
  10. Heat (1995)

if tarantino directed or written films are disqualified then I replace reservoir dogs & True Romance with. Citizen Kane and Raiders of the lost Ark

Good point. I need to think this through. Will post back soon…
