Sonny Chiba reviews

Return of the Street Fighter

Damn, the new transfer and original audio made me totally change my mind about this film.

The second film in the Street Fighter series was a disappointment to me. It lacks the good action of the first film.

Not true. The old US transfer was so dark, hazy and cropped that you couldn’t tell what was going on. With HK Video’s crystal clear transfer the action scenes become much more enjoyable.

Chiba’s new sidekick is irritating.

Original language makes a huge difference. Screw that american bitch who did the voice acting for the US version. She ruined the whole movie for me. The character is lovely with her original voice.

There’s a long and totally unnecessary flashback from the first film.

Unfortunately.

There are other problems too, like bad editing and too dark scenes.

The new transfer fixed the dark scenes, but there is one serious problem. The movie almost kills itself with endless martial arts demonstrations. Once we get through those, the rest is dynamite

The Street Fighter’s Last Revenge

[quote=“Hung Fist”]
Chiba returns to his role as Terry Tsuguri in this under-rated film. There’s not much of that over-the-top violence that made the first two films so famous. But that doesn’t mean there wouldn’t be a healty dose of quality action. Street Fighter’s Last Revenge is a bit more serious and less exploitation than it’s predecessor, but it’s an higly enjoyable action flick. 7/10

Not much to add, I didn’t change my opinion on this film. It was really great seeing Reiko and Etsuko together, though. Also, the finale ranks as one of Chiba’s the best fight scenes. Excellent use of music, too. Definitely an under-rated film. 7/10

Another glorious transfer from HK Video
