Scorsese - Master of urban epics

It IS a great movie. But its really a director for hire film. Not that its a bad thing but I dont think it was a film he was burning to make or anything. Whats great about COM is that Scorsese brought his brilliant personal artistic style to it and did more than just make another sequel.

I haven’t seen it, so I guess I’m excused. But if you all had to name one film, and only film, what would be your favorite? No “I can’t choose, they’re all good”. There’s a gun to your head, and you need to say just one.

Me, as I said, it’s Casino.

I said that Scorsese was on the downside of his career after i saw GONY then Marty won two Oscars for the Departed. Looks like I was wrong. haha.

It’s hard to pick a favorite Scorsese film because they all have something that sets them apart from the others. Since COM is one of my all-time favorite films I would have to say it is my favorite, but then again I really liked Taxi Driver and The Departed a lot too. Cape Fear was fantastic. Casino was an instant classic. The Last Waltz was one hell of a documentary. So, as you can see…there are a lot to choose from - and I haven’t even scratched the surface.

I really like Goodfellas, that’s my favorite. My second favorite will be Raging Bull.

A Personal Journey With Martin Scorsese Through American Movies :stuck_out_tongue: thats his best doc, before No Direction Home. It’s a tie between Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Mean Streets and Goodfellas

I hope people here know who The Band is. Ive been a fan of them for a long time now. The Last Waltz is one of my fave music films too.

There was this big country/rock/blues/bluegrass fusion that came out of the west coast scene in the 60’s…

The Birds, The Eagles, The Band, The Flying Burrito Brothers, Clarence White, etc…

The Eagles are one of the only bands ever to have a number 1 song on the Rock, Country, Easy Listening, and Pop stations all at the same time. Only Lionel Ritchie can make the same claim.

He’s the mAn! No doubt! I would put him up against any film director: Living or Dead.

His versitility is second to none. I have damn near all of his DVD’s.

I haven’t seen all his work, but from what I have seen (Mean Streets, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Aviator and The Departed) it’s proof enough that he is one of the greatest directors ever. I actually prefer QT to Scorsese just because I love ALL of QT’s films, whereas (and although I haven’t seen them yet) things like Kundun, Bringing Out the Dead and Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore don’t really appeal to me. So it fair to state that Martin Scorsese comes in at number 2 on my top 10 Greatest Directors list. However, QT hasn’t made anywhere near the number of films Scorsese has, so maybe when QT reaches that point it will be fairer to assess him against Scorsese.

I was watching parts of GoNY yesterday, and it just wreaks of quality. The opening scenes alone are damned near perfect. That battle scene is immense. You can tell QT took a few things from this for Kill Bill.

I love QTs films and QT as a director but I still think Scorsese is a better director (I’ve seen all of them even After Hours). QT is good but nothing he has done not even Pulp Fiction comes close to Taxi Driver or Raging Bull. Scorsese is just able to dig a little deeper into his characters than QT can and it makes all the difference.

Pulp is better than anything that Scorsese made. Period. Perhaps you should go to www.scorsese.info  oh…they don’t have such a site? sorry.

That is a very immature way of looking at things.

Although I prefer Pulp to all Scorsese flicks… that was quite an ignorant staement.

They’ve got Scorsese sites…

That’s very good. Now do us all a favor and go to one of them.

No I want to just stay around here to annoy you

Tarantino 2

Why do people feel the need to categorise everything everytime? Can’t we just agree that they’re both equally fucking awesome?
