RODRIGUEZ v. TARANTINO
‘Robert Rodriguez’ and ‘lazy’ don’t belong in the same sentence. If you have ever seen how much work he does in his films, you would know wha I’m talking about

In ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO i could never understand why ROBERT used SFX for basic body shots. I think thats a lazy way by fillmmaking standards. Trying to save money, but u have to spend money to make money.

Okay, I think they’re both great directors. But who do you think is the better writer?

My vote would go to TARANTINO becuz RODRIGUEZ’s dialouge can sometimes be “corny” and predictable.

But I have no direction problems with them.

I hardly ever notice the dialogue when i’m watching a Rodriguez movie. His films are all about the action and the style, and he usually puts the writing on the back burner. Now there are some funny lines here and there, but I bet most people who come out of seeing his movies don’t usually ever repeat any of those lines again. Many scenes in QT’s films are built around dialogue, and he just knows how to better flesh out a story and offer great twists. I think movies like el Mariachi and Once Upon a Time in Mexico are great popcorn entertainment, but their main plots are really nothing to write home about. I think that Tarantino is definitely more creative when it comes to basic ideas and characters, but Rodriguez is great when it comes to visual style and just making a really cool scene. So…I’m giving my cookie to Tarantino

And Sin City is supposedly almost an exact translation from the comics, so most of the writing credit should probably fall on Miller’s hands.

You got it right on the head itll be all millers writting and all rodriguez’s directions.

it better be a great film wit such a great cast and characters

i have 2 go with my man rodriguez just because he does everything and how he busted into the industry

Yeah well just because Good Charlotte had to work harder than Rancid to get a following doesn’t mean I have to like the fuckers.

I just saw Sin City and its as good as Pulp Fiction. My vote goes to Quetin, but i think if rodriguez continues making movies as good as Sin City than he could become just as good as quentin

yep, you’ve got a point there! If rodriguez starts sending out more pulpfictionesque movies like sin city and less spy kids films, he’ll have my vote over QT. (But that doesn’t mean quentin sucks, he will always be THE MAN)

Sin City was no Pulp Fiction. It was great but not up to that level. 2nd best film I’ve seen so far this year after City of God.

im new here, i just wanted to know what people think about robert rodriguez and if you think he’s a good writer/director or he’s just crap?

My opinion, which no one will agree with, is that his movies aren’t my bag. El Mariachi and Desperado aren’t worth watching more than once. Some of the dialog in OUTIM, I thought, me, probably no one else here, was pretty unimaginative. Mexicant. This is so good I’m gonna shoot the chef. Blah. He needs some new ideas cause his films are pretty cardboard. Maybe a new lead actor would help.

El Mariachi - Guitar player must kill mexican drug lord.

Desperado - Guitar player must kill mexican drug lord. Antonio

Four Rooms - Kids doing dangerous things. Antonio

Spy Kids 1-3 - Kids doing dangerous things. Antonio

OUATIM - Guitar player must kill mexican military leader. Antonio

Sin City is the first film of his that I really enjoy but Frank Miller pretty much did all the artistic, Rodriguez did the technical.

i think that quentins movies are better, they have a better feeling. roberts are more creative and he does them all himself. the humour is his humour, he writes, directs, edits, shoots, the technical part. his movies are a lot better then average hollywood movies, and he does it all himself, that says alot for movies like his.

What about “the Faculty”? ICKY! I hate this movie.

I didnt mind El Mariachi though. Pretty good considering it cost $7000 to make.

Hi and welcome!

I merged your newly made topic with this older one...

This is so good I’m gonna shoot the chef.
What does this line mean?

It’s a quote from Once Upon a Time in Mexico

I know. The question is, does that line make sense?

This is the easiest poll I ever had to vote for by the way

Im surprised that anybody voted for Rod.
