scanslated manga is a very good friend of mine, but i own tons of manga and like to have it in nice book form.
scanslated manga to me is only really convent when its full size when its shrunk sometimes it makes my eyes bleed - i have most of berserk full size but i still intend to buy alot of it - thats part of being a real manga fan, same goes for anime
I am more of a manga fan than a anime fan. I’ve read far more manga then i have watched anime, and i have seen quite a bit of anime still. Been into manga for years. As much as i loved comics about superheroes and such, i always was more inclined to read manga.
Then i developed a strange habit as well. I own manga in German, Spanish, Indonesian, Japanese, English, Italian, French and some more. Although those volumes are just for collecting sake.
Yeah when you told me you were buying that stuff in all those countries i was like WTF how are you supposed to read them, but some times depending on the type you read you just cant tell what the fucks going on anyway…
I definitley am more into anime. It would be cool to get the manga for the animes but by the time it is put into english the anime is light years ahead. I’m basically just watching Bleach now but the friggin manga is only halfway to the series. >:(
Well, there is stacks of manga for Bleach, but Scanslated is a good way to go. All the stuff before it gets licensed. Like fansubbed anime as well. Because it is totally free and legal as long as you don’t pay for it, all the fans go for the fansubbed anime. Of course, this is ages ahead because it was subbed by fans and preceded even the western licensing. I do like anime a lot, but somehow i developed this love of manga.
I get into manga cause it really is where it all began. Pretty much all anime was manga before, so the manga is generally pretty popular before it becomes anime. Plus, the creator of Bleach did a series before that called Zombie Powder which kicked so much arse, but never got made into an anime.

Theres a pritty huge amount of scanslated manga around, depending on the series its almost always available before in anime and sometimes you dont have to put up with censoring that comes with anime ( not all the time) Its all pritty easy to find…

Some times you just get stuff scanslated after it gets licensed…
I only get scanslated manga before it gets licensed as a loose rule of thumb. I prefer a copy of the manga and consider it akin to downloading films and music. It is pretty much ripping off hard working mangaka just like downloading films and music rips off hard working artists and filmmakers. Plus, it shows my loyalty. Of course, if it hasn’t been licensed then i jump at it.
Manga scantilated or not i just get at my leisure i dont really make any distinctions, i certainly don’t go to the effort of seeking out scanslated stuff above paying for it, i dont really care if something licensed, i just get what i can casually, I generally try not to make a job out being a fan - im a lazy person – unless I become really enthralled with something then i do and then its quality before anything else, and yeah even a show of support is important in those cases
Anyway, back on topic. The Lone Wolf and Cub manga rocked and I wish, before it got to this stage, that they had made like 20 or so films from all the volumes. Series like Zatoichi managed to churn out great films and they could even do it like the Wong Fei-Hung films which totalled like over 76 films or so. But i guess it is good they stopped with 6 perfect films.
im willing to bet many of those 76 films sucked, if a theme/ idea or whatever is going to be that long then it should just be a series that way its easyer to watch…
At the risk of double posting id like to mention that the lone wolf and cub films are being shown on sbs on Thursdays (apparently) baby cart Land of the dead was on last night - Angel take note

yeah, i know, didn’t really watch it though, already seen it. I also think that Samurai Champloo is starting this week.
I saw a bit of it ( Samurai Champloo on dvd ) and its pritty good thus far, it doesnt really carry a cowboy bebop feel its a purely samuri series, the music isnt by yoko kanno in this its more like hip hop… And a bout lone wolf and cub if theyve shown 2 of them thus far on sbs ( on thursdays i think ) then that means they might show the rest you have to see the 5th and 6th films there so bad ass…

I’ve already seen them! Anyway, even if i hadn’t, Baby cart in the land of demons is the fifth film…
I got a question. I dont have any of the lone wolf and cub movies, should I just buy one by one or go get the box set?
I’d say box set because it’s cheaper.
IMO Animeigo’s R1 box set features the best Picture quality. dvdpacific has it for $76. Of course you can also use amazon and pay their typical rip off prices ($134.99)
You can get the Thai box set for $20 from thaicdexpress. The image quality is slightly inferior, but still very good.
The german box set looks decent but not as good as Thai and Animeigo
Or, if you want the most beautiful box set in the world, you can get Wild Side’s french box set. The image is more natural (but maybe less appealing) than the releases mentionend above.
The old french releases by HK Video have better PQ.
Stay away from Artsmagic (R2 UK) and Eastern Eye (R4 AU). Both are horrible.

Eastern Eye isn’t too horrible. I have never personally seen it, but Eastern Eye are usually reliable. If it is the same as the one they show on tv here, then I don’t see all that much wrong with it. It’s only the contrast and brightness, the picture is surprisingly sharp. I know it isn’t the best, but please don’t put it with the Artsmagic one, because it is better than that. And I don’t agree with colour correction filters either.
Judging by caps, it looks unwatchable. Even if it’s not as bad as artsmagic, it’s still the second worst of all seven releases.
