Lucas isnt even a director to me anymore, hes like a fat cat who hires people to do things on computers for him. The only direction he gives these days is telling people to react to stuff thats not there in front of a greenscreen.
DePalma helps Lucas with Star Wars Episode IV:

Outside of Scarface I’m not a big DePalma fan. I never admired the Untouchables or Dressed to Kill or any of his other movies like alot of you do. As for Lucas, what the hell did he ever make?

Well every De Palma movie I have seen I have loved except “body double.” A true De Palma movie keeps you guessing to the end.
In the end, if people dont like DePalma’s films, thats their loss. I find them incredibly beautiful and daring. They are what cinema at its essence is all about. @

Me too.
I love Hitchcock and his huge body of work speaks for itself. I love QT but holding his handfull of movies up against Hitchcocks is not possible. Also take into account the era in which both film makers work. If Hitch were alive today I do imagine his films would be very exciting. It was hard to get away with even cussing in Hitch’s time. Hitchs TV shows, movies and books were wonderfull and thats good enough. Lets take up this conversation 25 years from now.
One of my favorite Hitchcock movies is the dark comedy “The Trouble with Harry”. Simply awesome
To go back to Lucas and Empire:
Let me point out that Lucas didn’t write the screenplay or direct Empire Strikes Back. He had almost nothing to do with it, and its still the best Star Wars movie. Bastard.
In all honesty, Lucas doesnt even register on the great directors list, hes one of those guys who built an entire career off of the first Star Wars. Thats great he made THX Sound and ILM etc but hes not a director whos influenced people with his unique style like DePalma or Leone etc.
