What makes Hitchcock movies so great? Which ones really stand the test of time? Are his movies watched for appreciation or enjoyment? Are they just technically brilliant, or do his movies offer more?

To name just one - North by Northwest, few modern day spy movies can compare to that. Witty and carefully worked out dialogues, just perfect amount of action and in the right times, great actor work, beautiful scenes. It stands the test of time alright. I better watch action scenes filmed on a soundstage (I only noticed that later) and feel the passion put in the work, not an actor covered with all sorts of modern day bullshit in front of a digital cartoon.
And Hitch’s movies aren’t technically brilliant. The shower scene in Psycho sucks, yet it is one of my top 10 movies, because it managed to scare me, as VERY few movies have, and there is an atmosphere you cannot capture in a nowadays movie which I have always enjoyed. If it really didn’t offer any more, then how can I explain the fact that, after having seen it like five times, the last time I saw it, in a theatre, I still got that awesome thrill all down my spine you so rarely experience in movies?
Whatever, like it or hate it, I am very pleased I CAN enjoy it, and that’s what matters.
