This is true. Long before I knew anyting about Stanley Kubrick, I knew that I really enjoyed Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, 2001 a space odyssey, and A Clockwork Orange. I never knew that the same guy made all of them, only that I liked them. I believe that this entitles met to say that I am a true Stanley Kubrick fan. I see a lot of people that claim to like a certain director just because every magazine and film critic says that he is great. Consequently, a lot of poor chaps find themselves watching really crappy films - like Hostel - just because a certain name is no the cover.
