Nifty Little Shit You Noticed

I think it’s really great how when the Bride first mentions “Hattori Hanzo”, you can hear Yukisan dropping the bottle of warm sake off screen.

posse, pussy

get it?
So whats Buck’s real name? I dont get it.

As Usurper mentioned, I also really got a kick out of the little water well thing and how it clicked, it made me laugh for some reason. QT just has so many cool little extra effects in his movies like that. They make it even more special.

Also when The Brides walking through the airport you can see other people carrying samurai swords.

I also loved the little well thing as it added a certain eery ambiance to the scene. But although I agree with you that QT is good in giving his movies nice little details like that, but don’t give QT the credit for this one. Water wells, or other objects making sounds in the background like that and most of the times for the purpose of heightening the tension have been used in quite some old fighting movie and westerns. though I don’t have a direct references at hand, I think it’s even in some of Kurosawa’s work (some of the work which have been a ‘source of inspiration’ for sergio leone, yep the Western-masta). so QT just gave use another great reference which made the scene great.
I think my own strangest shot of KB v 1 is during the the Bride/CottonMouth fight scene (in the snow)…it’s a Long shot, and we see both moving(running sideways) in a strobe-slow motion manner, between this little fence…interesting.

Anyone else struck by this?
That’s definately one of the most beautiful shots of the movie. there he actually took a ‘movement/action’ that is used in many samurai swordfighting movies:

running alonside each other fast clutching the sword with both hands and looking straight at the other. sometimes with something surrounding or in between, bushes, high grass, maybe a sort of seethrough wall or a fence as in this case.

the only thing that makes QT’s ‘running standoff’ different from all the others is the beautiful angle and the sort of dreamy slow motion. Goddamn this movie rocks!

btw: can someone explain to me the 69 on the heartrate monitor? so what it means. Someone mentioned it to be an easy joke, but I don’t get it. Did I miss something?

69 is a dual oral sex position. Look at the numbers and I think you can put it together.

About the waterwell thing: I dont think Ive seen that before, nothing I can remember anyway. But its a great little effect even if its not all QTs idea.

I noticed that Venita Green said to her kid “This Bitch just asked you a question.” Except "This Bitch " is really the bleeped out sound of the Bride’s name with the words flipped.

I also noticed 4 girls scream & have a little freakout when Venita got killed. I liked that.

QT likes rhyming phrases that include names(i’ve always found these to be amusing as well)

pulp fiction - "zed’s dead"

kill bill - well, the title itself. but also, “buck…fuck”, uma says “even steven” at one point…

i need to go watch jackie brown again and i think there’s one in res dogs too…any ideas?

also it’s cool when uma says something to vivica fox about being even or “i’d say we’d be about square” and she does the square thing w/ her hand kinda like she does in pulp fiction…

That’s pretty cool. I think he might rhyme something to Lance too.

More Rhymes:

“Everything from a diddle eyed joe to a damned if I know” - Dogs/True Romance

"My way or the highway" - Dogs

"Someone blew Beaumonts brains out" - Jackie Brown

-The Green Hornet theme is actually called “Flight of the Bumble Bee” what color is a bumblebee? Yellow and Black!!

  • Anyone notice the trunk shot of The Bride in her motorcycle helmet talking to Sofie Fatale. The black viser on the helmet fades right into the night sky, it looks weird but fuckin cool!

i want to know da name of the crazy 88 with the fucked up hair and bling bling in his mouth-that dude kicks ass

Vernita didn’t say ‘this bitch asked you a question.’ She said the Bride’s name.

‘**** asked you a question.’

What I said, is that when Vernita said “********”, the bleeping sounded like “this Bitch”. If you flip-flop the words this Bitch, got get Bitchthis, ********. That’s what it sounded like to me anyways.

Did’ja notice that O-Ren Ishi’s sword looks almost exactly like a souvenir sword that sits on top of my parent’s TV at their home. Fuckin’ deja vu or what?

Has this been mentioned before – the opening shot of The Bride’s siloheutte as she’s laying down is just like the one in Citizen Kane before Kane utters “Rosebud”.

Other things which I think no-one mentioned:

1.) When Vernita is talking to the Bride in the beginning, she points her finger menacingly at her, and the Bride sort of backs away. This is followed by like 2 seconds of silence. I thought this was a nice little touch.

2.) When Boss Tanaka is talking about the perversion of the Council, the bald guy next to him begins to wave in an agitated manner the fan in his hand. Everyone in the audience laughed during that sequence.

Did anyone else notice the soles of those shoes??

-During the fight scene in the night club, there’s a sequence where the camera is looking up at Uma through the glass floor as she is walking on it. It looked like something was printed on the soles of her shoes in big letters…possibly her last name?

the print actually shows the brand of the shoes (onitsu katiger aka onitsu tiger) you can check out the sites here:

http://www.asicstiger.com/onitsukatiger/index.html

http://www.asics.nl/ot/

on the dutch site you can actually win kill bill memorabilia (tshirts, tickets, soundtrack and the shoes)

Ok, here’s another really cool thing I noticed when watching the movie again yesterday:

In the chapel sequence with Michael Parks, son number 1 says that the Bride’s false name was Arlene Machiavelli. Machiavelli was a very prominent writer in the Renaissance. His most established work, “The Prince”; talks about all the necessary traits and characteristics a successful king should possess. Among other things he talks about revenge and  states that:

“And here we must observe that men must either be flattered or crushed; for they will revenge themselves for slight wrongs; whilst for grave ones they cannot. The injury, therefore, that you do a man should be such that you need not fear for revenge.”  -  Niccolo Machiavelli, The Prince, Chapter 3

Pretty fucking cool, huh?  8)

indeed, Quentin goes a little poetic/literary speaking on us there. nice finding.

btw, where does the son nr. 1 thing come from? I once read it but I forgot? anyone?

Charlie Chan called his son: No 1 son.

Other connections to Charlie Chan:

"…Toby Chung, Charlie fuckin Chan" - Reservoir Dogs

  • Lucy Liu is going to star in an updated remake of the Charlie Chan movies.

    Scarface: Very cool connection there!

Anyone else noticed the name of the cereals vernita shoots with,

KABOOM
