CGI is great in small doses, if you need to do something that would risk other people’s lives and costs alot of money to do without CGI. It’s also good for a large amount of people on screen, cus you can’t hire ten thousand people and dress them up in costumes and then you also have to feed them etc.
With CGI you can take a small group of people like 40 people and duplicate them and move them around on the screen.
CGI is also good if you need something like fire to make a shape of a hand for example, while it explodes. It can be done, it can not be done as far as I know with regular pyrotechnics.
The only bad thing about CGI is it has to look real even if it’s unreal (like a flying dragon) or else it doesn’t work.
