Ok so let me get this straight, if uma thurman won that oscar it would a celebration of asian martial arts genre? So now Uma Thurman is Asian just because she appeared in one martial arts movie or are you implying that she some how is the face of asian martial arts? Are you serious? So if she had won an oscar for pulp fiction would you say it was a celebration of all the black actresses in american action genre that had never won anything? How can you say something so ridiculous? not to mention insulting to those very asian actresses you have mentioned that are ten times better than Uma Thurman on any given day! (Surely how shallow could your understanding of martial arts be for you to make such a ridiculous statement that implies the asian actresses are more or less inferior and are not worthy of winning anything in their own right?
Secondly there is a reason why those actresses have never won oscars… The movies they perform in do not qualify under the guidlines that govern the awards. Most of those movies they perform in only qualify for the best foreign film award and thats it. (pretty much all other categories have to of movies made in the english language)
And third and most important, martial arts movies or action movies do not win oscars. Movies that win oscars have a strong dramatic content not action sequences. And like it or not kill bill lacks severely in drama and dialogue. That is not to say that a movie which involves action sequences can not win an oscar. Movies like Saving Private Ryan, Gladiator etc have a stonger dramatic component than action component. Spider man is a far better movie than kill bill but it will not be in contention due to the fact that its an action movie.
(And yes CTHD won best foreign film because it has a more solid story, drama and dialogue that are well balanced with the action thus the phrase Action/drama normally used to categorize such movies.)
