It’s Bette. Yeah her eyes were very sexy, growwwwl.
I mean a horror film that stars two of the most famous actresses of all time with a long, disputed rivalry clashed together in one picture, is beyond what anyone could hope for. The two actresses really kicked the shit out of each other in some scenes. Joan Crawford needed stitches when Bette Davis kicks her in the head. And days later Bette had a bad back and she needed to drag Joan in a bed scene, and Joan caused a a back injury that left Bette in the hospital for four days. Oh, and her singing was so great! “I’ve written a letter to daddy, his address is heaven above…” man I really love this film, you look at this film and you realize that horror really is dead.
You gotta watch Jezebel, it’s one of William Wyler’s finest AND Henry Fonda is in it as well. The ball room dance sequence will win you over.
I want pudding chat not Bette Davis chat.

That’s what they said about Beauty and the Beast and all it did was leave me with a really annoyingly cheesy song stuck in my head.

and that reminds me of that other movie “mommy dearest” about Joan Crawford - “NO WIRE HANGERS” that really fucked my young mind up

LOL! ;D
Part of me wishes for movies to be as simple and stunning as they were, but I’m mostly glad we’ve moved past that. Classics are classics for a reason… Because there will never be another like it again. They’ll always be there, and they’ll never lose their glamour.
So be happy, and move on… To STAR TREK XI!

Well her bastard “daughter” was so vengeful about Joan because of all the “abuse” - she decided to write some bullshit biopic that speaks of abuse done by Joan, and the crazy night raids with her adopted kids about the wire hangers. But it’s best to remember her by her excellent work, she began her Hollywood career as a dancer and worked her way up when she signed a 10 week contract with MGM. A real rags to riches story, and that woman did everything in her power to improve her craft as an actress, she came through in some silent films then made the movie Rain - which she made under a small Warner Bros. contract, but Mildred Pierce is by far the best performance of her career. She’s not some monster, she was a great actress and was very loyal to her fans.

The major change was the use of spfx in films, that opened the visual medium to greater lengths and so most character based stories that consisted of dialogue as in most of Joseph L. Mankiweicz’s films have become pretty extinct - he had the uncanny ability to combine traits of Broadway theatre into the screen and used very few locations and gave film its “visual medium” a run for it’s money. Nowadays no one could get away with that because the broad audience would deem that to be dull cinema. I think three of our most old school writer/directors around that can tell great stories without any sfx bullshit are Paul Thomas Anderson, QT, and The Coens.
