Hostel

This is the problem of the movie. It would have been much better when there only has been calm ads. The suspense and the surprising effect would have been much bigger. I thought the entire movie about this and came to the conclusion that THIS was Roth’s intention. The shock the people…

Was QT responsible for the storyline of Hostel or was it Eli Roth’s doing? I enjoyed the movie and was arguing about some stuff with a couple of friends that Tarantino is responsible for that trash.

Again, I enjoyed the movie, didn’t take it seriously, but enjoyed it just the same and am under the impression that QT merely Produced it and let Roth and his band of merry men have their go.

Later.

I know QT came up with the toe-chopping with the bolt cutter idea. Him and his crazy foot fetish. :stuck_out_tongue:

From imdb:

Director Eli Roth says that he found a Thai website that advertised itself as a “murder vacation,” offering users the chance to torture and kill someone for the price of $10,000. Roth later showed the site to Quentin Tarantino and the two developed the idea for the film. Tarantino and Roth said later on an Icelandic talk show that they have no idea if the website was real or not.

I heard somewhere else that Q had suggested some torture scenarios but overall, it’s Eli Roth’s script.

I work at a video store and people are always missing one of the two discs in two-disc special edition DVDs. Cause they think its already in there and leave it in their DVD player. But sometimes we order the one-disc editions for rental. Because most of the people who rent videos don’t even give any notice to special features. They just watch the film and return it. King kong had a one-disc and a two-disc. We just got the one-disc. We have only had one guy since ask about the two-disc.

To me, the extras are one of the greatest things about DVDs. But I guess you have to be a film fan and not just a casual film watcher to bother with hearing how the director shot this or that scene.

If i rent a movie that i actually want to see the special features, i will be buying the movie and then watch the specials.

After i saw this movie i was kinda surprised over the fact that it wasn´t all that shocking at all! a while later i noticed that the movie is around 94 mins long…but the cut i saw was only 89! what cut did I see, and what is missing of it?

Those extra 3 minutes…you’re not missing much, just a few more titties.

I honestly expected something better from this movie. The first half was just a remake of Eurotrip. The second half wasn’t half as gory or disturbing as I expected it to be. And Jay Hernandez somehow manages to bump into all of the people who were responsible for his friends’ deaths as he’s escaping from the country. That was too much of a stupid coincidence to be taken seriously. Not a bad effort mind you. It’s just that the hype killed this one for me.

Cabin Fever is better.

I don’t think it’s a GREAT movie, but I like it because one thing i love watching is people getting revenge on others in movies…similar to when i went to the theaters to see “The Hills have eyes” remake; it’s not a fantastic flick, but it made me alert the whole movie and I was extremley entertained.

Eli roth’s movies serve their purpose of keeping people entertained…but I don’t think Hostel or Cabin Fever are good movies neccesarily.

I loved the revenge at the end.

Cabin Fever is a good horror movie, this was just plainly stupid. The acting was very medicore for one thing, another was the fact that the main characters were chauvanistic arrogant twats who i really didnt care for which made wanting them to survive a hard task. And the stupendous hype to the “gore” and “shocking material” was let down by a very tame shockfest. It was in no way the level of gore that i was expecting which was a shame seeing as this was the films biggest (if not only) selling point. Another thing, considering the script was apparently edited by Tarantino, it was still terrible i mean really cheesy most of the time and completely implausable at others. I found this an overall let down, to what could have been something very good.

I don’t like Eli Roth one bit…Didn’t like Cabin Fever or Hostel. My expectations for Hostel were totally in the other direction the film actually went. I dunno…I mean the first half sucked balls, and the last half was meh. Horror movies today are a joke. The Devils Rejects is a good movie, but it wasn’t really horrifying - which is just fine because it was a solid film. And Jigsaw from Saw is certainly interesting although it’s more of psychological thriller… anywyas I think the only thing going for horror flicks is one thing and on thing only, his name; Alexandre Aja. He has only made two horror movies, Haute Tension and The Hills Have Eyes. Those were good horror films, the man knows what he is doing. He has a few more projects coming up that look like they will be promsing, Into the Mirror, The Waiting, The Hills Have Eyes II, HHE II he isn’t directing but he wrote the screenplay.

I just hate how they’ve sticked “Quentin Tarantino” all over the goddamn thing and he doesn’t seem to mind.

A homage to ‘My Name Is Nobody’ a film that opens up with ‘Sergio Leone Presents’ perhaps? Or perhaps not.

Hostel? Trust me. I work in a video store and Straight to video gets a whole lot worse than Hostel. I though Hostel was alright. I haven’t watched it again since and I don’t think it is a great film. But I enjoyed it for what it was. I’d rather watch Hostel one billion times than watch an actual straight to video film. The absolute shit I have to put up on the shelves where I work… I feel like vomiting…

What could be worse? Toxic Avenger?

No, nowadays they don’t even have cool B-movie names like that. They actually take themselves seriously. One even had the nerve to say it was a “cult classic” on the front, when it was really just a piece of shit. Seagal is the worst offender nowadays. What a hack.

I keep seeing this particular Seagal movie at the video store and i keep thinking why does so much money get pissed away on crappy movies? give me some if theres that much to piss away…

anyway i listened to the hostel audio commentary when Tarantino introduces himself at the beginning and the other say think it sounded cool and he says it sounded gay… i was going for gay… that always seems to make me laugh… that and the hole hairy chest clogging up his pool thing…
