Harmony Korine's Trash Humpers

I’m not even going to lie… that just looks so stupid  I still haven’t checked out ANYTHING from Korine out of lack of interest, and this doesn’t look like anything I’ll need to check out.

Reminds me of Bride of Frank for some reason.
I think you have to understand his other films. On the surface a lot of the antics of his subjects, usually the fringe groups, look stupid and immature but it’s the way Korine pays careful attention to them and how real they are. He can find beauty in trash like no one else. This film could go either way, as any experiment could but to write off a few out of context clips is ignorant, frankly.
Think whatever you’d like, I know that I’ve seen films far more strange than Korine’s work will ever be and I know I’m an open minded viewer, so whatever. I can’t help it, to me it’s silly looking and gets a laugh out of me. Who knows, maybe I’ll someday stumble upon it and find it terribly interesting and everything I’ve been searching for in cinema but for right now - not interested. Not when I have so many other flicks that actually do interest me waiting on my viewing.
It made me laugh too. Is that not one of his intentions? You have a bunch of old people humping trash and you think he’s trying to be artsy and serious at that moment? It’s not like every moment of his films is supposed to be studied and taken seriously.

But whatever, I never quite liked your avatar anyway.

I’d say there’s a certain amount of pomposity to it, yeah. The follow up of the camera person barking at whoever ominously? Certainly seems intended to be relatively serious. I doubt he’s going for anything deep there of course, but I don’t doubt it’s supposed to be a textured layer of weirdness. I think what this boils down to my friend is simply a differing of opinions. I can be pretty jaded sometimes and have been somewhat tired here lately with films I feel I’ve seen before, so the trailer and the buzz just isn’t doing anything for me. I’d say you’re a fan of the man’s work and maybe you do know him better than I, so your expectations are much higher and it’s a film you’re looking forward to. Different strokes.

You won me over with that though ;D I will actually watch this movie because of that ;D However, let’s not kid anyone, no one can dislike Bruce Campbell. No one. 8)

I don’t dislike Bruce Campbell. I was just substituting avatar for face in this particular joke.

And I saw the film last night, it’s not self-indulgent, pretentious or too serious. It’s actually a pretty haunting film. Like a cross between Even Dwarves Started Small and…I don’t even know. It’s unfair to compare it to anything. All I know is it disturbed me and then in the end I was actually feeling quite broken hearted.
