Julien Donkey Boy is a fantastic film. I’ve said it before.
I am a huge fan of filmmakers using whatever format aesthetically suits their film. Cellphones, VHS, Pixelvision, MiniDV, 8 mm. I love that aspect of independent film too. Nick Zedd, the Kuchar Brothers, Richard Kern. Making their own street epics on little to no money. It’s so inspiring.
Provided, of course, that it was an aesthetic choice and not a bullshit pseudo-intellectual wank choice.
By the way, have you seen anything by Sadie Benning, F.W.? Her father is an avant-garde legend, but her stuff is amazing. Stuff she did when she was 16 on a Pixelvision camera her father gave her.
